Desert Fox:

Vis a vis "Facta non verba"...

I believe the correct phrasing of the above quote is Acta Non Verba. It is the motto of the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY. It translates literally as "Deeds not words."

My favorite line that I heard all too often, though it's not a motto, is from when I was in 20th Group in 98-99 and we went to Camp Santiago down in Puerto Rico. Someone from one of the S shops was always showing up saying:

"Hi I'm from Battalion. I'm here to help."

Now that brings back memories. When I was a cadet at the USMMA we were told that the commandant , who was a vice admiral at the time, stuck his ship not once but twice on the same sand bar in Long Island Sound. So much for "Deeds not Words" when it came to his discussion of navigations skills.:D As I recall, whenever we ran into him, we muttered amoungst ourselves "Weeds not Words"!

From a foreign SOF battalion:
"Soldado advertido no muere en guerra"
Unofficial second verse:
"O si muere, es por marica."

Team mottos I've heard and liked:

"Somos pocos pero locos."

"Pursue, pressure, punish"

7th Marines:

"Prepare to March!"

Our SFQC class motto was "We'll come back with the shield, or on it." It's a Viking reference. Viking dead were carried home on their shields. This was also a time when only SF qualified troops wore the beret flash. Also a time when only SF, Ranger and 82d wore berets.

SMDCMD was one of my favorites. Stood for "Suck Me Dry and Call Me Dusty".

EPABF was one teams that called it out all the time, like during PT. Meant "edited to remove profanity" Can we curse on here? No filters?

"No Pain, No Gain" is a classic.

So is "That which does not kill me makes me stronger."

I was on a Mountain Team, ODA-143, 1st Gp, and our motto was "Berg Heil" whenever we were in the mnts, which was allot. Our Tm Sgt and Intel Sgt had spent allot of time at Bad Tolz and brought that to the team.

Same team, we also used to tell/yell to students, when on Rainier, Icicle Creek, or wherever, "Come on Flatlanders!" I got it from a Coors commercial that ran on the TV allot at that time, '84-'85.

"With your shield, or on it" was a Spartan mother's/wife's "farewell" to her husband/son as he left for battle. They predate the Viking age by a little bit. ;)

Can't argue with that, Razor was there.

Pressure, Pursue, Punish is also 1/3SFG(A)'s motto. Also known as the Desert Eagles.
