Introduction
Hello, all. I'm a PL with B/1-24 IN in Alaska. I've enjoyed the book reviews for the most part so far. I can't remember how I first came across this site but it has been interesting thus far. Thank you for creating and maintaining it.

Hello, all. My name is Will - I'm 27 years old and a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I completed an OCS packet and was accepted in September of 2006. However, since then I've decided that I want to serve in the enlisted side of the Army, specifically in special operations. It's a decision that I'm 100% committed to and have been working hard every day to prepare myself mentally and physically.
I've been in the process of pursuing an Option 40 contract, and in fact, I was at MEPS today to complete my Airborne physical and reno my contract. I was told there were no Option 40 contracts available, but they did offer an 18x. I told them I wanted to take some time so I can have all the facts before making a decision. I've only recently discovered this site and began to truly understand what Special Forces do and how the 18x contract works. I was plowing ahead on the Option 40 contract without fully knowing what all the options were. It's my fault, but I plan to rectify the situation by continuing to soak up as much information as I can. In a sense, I feel grateful that the contract was not available, as I now have a couple more weeks to make an informed decision. To be honest, the more that I learn about SF & the 18x contract, the more I feel that this is the type of career that I had hoped to pursue, and I will have to give it some serious thought. My heart tells me to keep my original goal, and I may very well end up with an Option 40 anyway, but now at least I'll know I had all the facts first. Thank you to all the BTDTs here and at armyranger.com for providing this invaluable resource. EDIT: I learned about this site through armyranger.com |

Really enjoying the forum. Very little bullshit, if any. And no tolerance for stupid questions. There's a real wealth of information and the perspectives are really enlightening. I really thought hard about going SF in 20th group, but personal (woman) problems got in the way, and ended up with nothing to show for it. Lesson finally learned. Now I'm going to use my "Mesopotamia Savings Plan" money to go to college as soon as I make it home from this next deployment. Still really attracted to going SF just because it feels like such a noble purpose. |
