Received from My friend Lars Larson, the conservative radio talk show king of Oregon who also has a national show in the evening...

LOL, although it doesn't fit with the poster very well. I think the original slogan on that one was something like, "How about a nice hot cup of STFU?"

RL refers to this classic.

Bill, you know they can't do that, that would be tantamount to admitting that they are wrong! :D

I've always been a fan of the "classic"...but I like the new one, thanks Mr. Harsey!

I have the T Shirt with that on it...

Got warned by some cop for wearing it.. Its "Offensive" apparently.

Uhuh, Whatever.

Solid

A COP tells you that that's offensive?
How odd, I was under the impression that in this country we upheld the freedom of speech.

RL?

Have a great evening/morning everyone,

Solid

zero, remind said Constable that if someone can burn a flag in Parliament and get off the charge then your t shirt is nothing.

Solid, he's not in the US.

Ok, Sorry, should have stated the T shirt I have is the "Shut the Fuck Up" one.

And as H14 has indicated, Im not in the US - Im a Kiwi, just like Huey 14.

And Kiwi cops dont like T shirts with the F word on them

I remember being in Auckland in 95'...

I missed a step and tripped off the curb, I didn't fall, just stumpled, I muttered "Shit" out loud and I got all kinds of dirty looks from the locals.

After my short time in NZ it became very apparent that cusing in public was not socially acceptable.

NZ is a really cool place but you have got watch your language.

That's too bad, I'd have a hard time trout fishing there but I still want to go.

I'd go back in a heart beat. I've heard the trout fishing is the best in the world...I'd like to find out.

I went fishing last year up on lake Taupo. The limit is two trought per person, and they do board you to check. But I suppose if you go back to shore and drop them off it resets the limit :D I'm not one for taking 10s of fish out, though. I'll see if I can dig out the photo of the trought I got.

The swearing issue is...odd. It really depends on where you are and what the word is. Anything but F and C is generally fine. I did get a nasty stare from a very "mature" woman for calling my mate a dick in the bookstore the other day.

ROFLMAO!!

I'd never heard about the swearing-ban in NZ, which is odd because my sister lived there for a year.

Aside from the classic "We want you", what military advertisement, if any, got you hooked on joining up? Alternatively, which is your favorite military ad you've seen?

Thanks,

Solid

(Mine is the SF one about the sniper... "He's had food for 10 days. It's day 15".)

Mine was the poster of the green beret on the black background with the words, "It says more about you than you would ever say about yourself".

A poster in 67, yes 67, that said "Just some of your tools." The poster had everything from grenades to knives, to pistols and subguns. It was an SF poster. I saw it just before a guy, in a funny looking green hat, said I probably wasn't good enough to be in his unit, but If I thought I was, I could come down and test that night to see if I qualified to be interviewed.

Boy did I show him.

Longrange: did you ever see that guy again?

No, that was his retirement assignment. He is somewhere in California I do believe.

He did welcome me aboard when I passed the written exams and the interview and wished me good luck in Training Group. Told me to keep mouth shut and eye and ears open. Dam good advice. :)

Not exactly a military advertisement, but the attached picture pretty much "hooked me" on joining up.

Alternately, my favorite military ads are the posters from the 80s with the chicks decked out in weapons and not much else. :D
They've got a bunch hanging up at the local military surplus store but none for sale. Ah well. :(

My first introduction to SF as a kid was the National Geographic series back in the 60s (my sitter had kept old copies of the magazines) of the team at a primarily Montagnard camp, keeping control of things during one of the attempted Yard 'coups'. That led to my checking a copy of "The Green Berets" from my local library, which further led to a never-ending search for more information and a growing desire to see if I measured up to the standards these guys set. I'm still busting my ass to try to measure up as best I can.

TR what about the one (and I have it someplace), something along the line..."We want you to join us, not because you're different, but because we are."

This seems relevant now. (SASR). It's real apparantly.

I think this is a great ad, wish I had a better qualify image or a hard copy.

There are a series of similar ones, but I can never find them online.

The Army recently canned the ad company that came up with the slogan
"Army of One" and hired some other ad company from NYC or Chicago, I can't remember which, but I read the article on Military.com.
