Advil/Motrin/Ibuprofen has never helped me at al for any kind of pain relief. Aspirin on the other hand works well for me.

The meds you need for that is not on the list but at the liquer store.
Well, if I had my flask bottle in my desk drawer handy, then that would be my first choice....but....:p
I take aspirin for most things understanding it has not so good side effects.
A Dr. prescribed a limited Vicatin for certain pains and the next Dr. I had balked at that because of addiction problems with people. Of course then I went to a different Dr.
I tried Motrin or iboprofin but it did next to nothing. Now it is aspirin for most things unless really sore then Vicotin.

I haven't practiced medicine for a long time but everything I knew then about these are still relevant today.
That chart is mostly crap.
Tylenol (aka acetaminophen or paracetamol) is also a good antipyretic (fever) medicine in addition to other minor pains and swelling.
Aspirin NSAID treats all of those symptoms well. It's mostly a pain and inflammation (arthritis) medicine but since it thins the blood it often works to relieve headaches.
Naproxen is good for joint and arthritis pain not so much anything else.
And ibuprofen is your big NSAID - anti-inflammatory medicine which makes it a catch all.
Then there are the mixture OTC drugs that have better results at General and specific ailments.
Excedrin contains three (aspirin-paracetamol (aka Tylenol) and caffeine) it's the caffeine that takes care of the hangover and migraine headaches.
Bayer Back and Body has aspirin + caffeine and works well for many ailments although it targets back and joint pain.
All have their side effects and neither may be a long term solution to chronic pain.
My long term solution to chronic pain is Celebrex, which until recently was not available as a generic. I suffer head to toe from arthritis especially in my neck and shoulders. My Ortho Doc tells me I am in bad enough shape for a shoulder replacement but too young. I have been on Celebrex for 12 years and it allows me to maintain, I am beyond the OTC's.

Thanks for the info. So far none of the OTC's I've tried helps my hurting shoulder. I haven't taken any of the ones with caffeine since I have enough trouble sleeping already. Been taking naproxen mostly the last couple months, perhaps I should go back to ibuprofen.

BUT, I didn't know there was a generic??
What is the street name for it??

Celecoxib, How long have you been on it? There have been some times that I have had to go off of it for short term due to other med issues and I immediately feel the effects.

2 yrs ago,, I had my gall bladder taken out and they were concerned I took to much Tylenol-PM (OTC, one @ day) and effects on my liver.
The two times I let my prescription laps for a couple days was dramatic. It is very good at what it does.. :lifter
BUT, I ask every time I go to the doc, about effects and alternatives. With my current drug plan costs about 60USD a month, @ 90 day re-fills.

I have been having blood drawn once a year to check for side effects and have had no issues in all this time. My pills were $3.00 apiece before the generic which is completely covered by my insurance. I had a discectomy at C3-4 in early July and have to be off the Celecoxib till my fusion takes hold, I have aches and pains everywhere for the time being. The effect is indeed dramatic.
The BEST solution would have been taking better care of my body when I was younger...
...now, well, I'm just pretty well fucked
You young folk better take heed - aging sucks - take care of yourself now before you have to worry which OTC pain med is going to destroy your kidneys and liver the fastest. For now, take Tylenol for headaches, Naprosyn for the Knees, Midol for cramps; "for everything else - there's MasterCard"
