Crews are working today to revamp a Fort Bragg restaurant as part of a reality television show.
The Food Network's "Restaurant: Impossible'' is filming on Fort Bragg today and Thursday for an upcoming episode that revolves around the Green Beret Club.
The restaurant, which has a Special Forces theme, is getting a makeover as part of the show, which features celebrity chef Robert Irvine.
It will reopen later this week, but it's unclear when the episode will air.
The Green Beret Club is off Gruber Road, at the intersection of 9th Infantry and Buker streets.
Irvine has been on Fort Bragg since Monday, visiting with troops and jumping with the Golden Knights, the U.S. Army parachute team.

Beat me to it! I look forward to seeing the results.
I really hope that someone took possession of all the photos and memorabilia that was in the building so that it can be cataloged and preserved..

As long as they continue to serve Jalapeno popcorn, it's worth the trip.

It's going to take more than a made for TV makeover to get me excited about the "edifice formerly known as the GBSPC" (or the first time I went there when it was the "5th SFG(A) Area Studies Building").
Last time I was there, some years ago in '09, it was pretty much a psyops hang out. Maybe 6 - 7 SF guys and a company or so of pysopers.
Didn't have the same 'feel'.....maybe it's rejuvenated tho.
The pussification of the sport parachute clubs...and I thought it was bad enough when they turned the "I Bar" at Fort Benning into a Little Caesars takeout pizza parlor.
Things like this make me glad my biggest worry now is finishing the dog pen for my hounds under the mulberry behind the machine shop.

About the Show
Turning around a failing restaurant is a daunting challenge under the best of circumstances.
Attempting to do it in just two days with only $10,000 may be ...

I would be real concerned about the memorabilia.. :(
Personally, I just don't trust a 92G on roids who worships FLOTUS ..
YMMV.. :munchin

The museum is involved. Roxanne is taking care of the memorabilia.
I here they're gonna make copies of a lot of it, make a presentation, and have it loop playing on a big screen or something like that.
The originals will be stored safely..
I miss the old GB back before the last 2 "makeovers".... Late 80's/early 90's before the landscape around the GB changed. It's not the same.
I'll go have a beer there but it'll never be retro'd back the way it was.
As long as they continue to serve Jalapeno popcorn, it's worth the trip.
They stopped that years ago.
The Green Beret Club has mustered out a profit that's just enough to keep the doors open, but it has had to make some concessions, McCollum said. The 50-seat restaurant, at 9th Infantry and Buker streets, no long offers dinner or bar service.
Ok so GB Club will no longer be a bar?? Hell that's the only thing that kept it alive. When they stop having the wings and dinner menu it took a dive down hill hard.
We should have moved it back in 2004 when they remodeled it then. I got the history and location of the building. But nothing around there is SF. That has killed that place.
Well it will be popular again for a few months.

If they took down the pictures of our fallen brothers, I will never set foot back in there again.
They should have just moved it to the corner of Desert Storm and Yadkin years ago, but I understand that was squashed by the red-cockaded woodpecker and their tree-hugging, bark-eating lovers.

Charlie Mikes seems to have those photos. Even Mckellars has stopped being a bar. Military clubs are history it seems.

You are spot on JJ.
Robert Irvine was fired by the Food Network after it was found out he lied on his resume and rehired because the Low IQ Viewers wanted him back. Makes you wonder how many other "Chef's" on the Food Network are actually chefs.......
I've watched Food Network over the years and they are quickly moving away from real food to food reality shows with people that have nothing to do with food.
Anything for money..........

I couldn't agree more. I used to watch DIY and HGTV for great instruction on fixing up the house, repairing things, gardening and landscaping tips, etc. Then they went full homo and became an interior design reality show. The same is happening for Food Network. They hardly have cooking shows anymore. It's all reality shows and a bunch of crap!

I'm still praying for the day when TS goes on one of these shows. How about MasterChef?

P36, we put up new photos in CM's... the old ones were still on the walls of the GB club..
Glebo, a rolling video program of the pics.. sounds extremely retarded...

WE PETITION THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION TO:
bring back the Green Beret Club to Ft Bragg NC.
LINK: (http://wh.gov/lLCAj)
The Leg REMF's have allowed the Food Channel's Restruant Impossible destroy the Green Beret Club (GBC).
The historic club has been a community center for the countless Special Forces troops stationed at Ft Bragg for almost 60t'y years. The new interior has been stripped of priceless pictures and memorabilia, replaced with non-discript blah nothingless.,
To bring in Robert Irvine, a 92g with a big ego problem, disputable cooking talent and questionable business tactics, is an insult to the brave men that were honored at the GBC.

Has been for awhile...the décor just caught up with the patrons....they live there...barracks right next door so drinking and walking...now drinking on Post and driving home...that's what killed the GB club.

I fondly remember my first visit to the GBC with Ambush Master back in 2005. Last time I was in town, I didn't go because everyone said it had been taken over by CA people and wasn't what it used to be. Went to Charlie Mike's instead. :munchin

Yes a true landmark ripped away from the bonds of SF hands.
Sorry to say that we SF that felt that CM was the better place to go hang out contributed to this Demise.
I will never step off in there since it's no longer the GB Club.
Here is your chance..
How come nobody is voting?? Reprecussions??

It it the smoke bomb grill. The interior is, well think sports bar with no TV's
I went in before the change and photographed the interior.

While I was there the manager mentioned that they were going to remove all the photos to make room for the new generation to put up their photos. At that point I went around and photographed all the walls as best I could.
After the change I asked the manager who had actual physical possession of the photos and things from the walls. She said that the historian had taken them down and that they were at the museum. What historian and what museum I cant say.

This made me think of my first visit in 1977. The GBC was in an old wooden barracks building somewhere over by Womack. I was a buck sergeant, a SFC and MSG took me over there for lunch. There was the bartender and one other guy in the place. The other guy had a bottle of moonshine and was in a sharing mood. We didn't make it back that day. The next day the Det CDR called us all in for a talk. He asked me if I liked being in the 400th, (with the implication that I wouldn't be staying if I pulled that stunt again), then told me to get out. I beat a quick retreat. I think the rest of the conversation went between "what the f*** did you think you were doing" and "setting a piss-poor example for the junior NCOs".
Good times.

I was instructed not to release the "after" photos until after the show airs, whenever that may be. The Fayetteville Observer however, has plenty.

From what I understand it's no longer the "Green Beret Club."
Hopefully they rename it also.......
It's the "Smoke Bomb Grille" now, and they serve an "All American Burger"
...a fucking "All American Burger" at the GB club.
You have got to be shitting me.

The clubs on Bragg during the '60's would cause the current crop of Army GO's
to have heart attacks.
Good thing the pack table's in the old club couldn't talk!

The tables talked. That's why they changed the name to something effeminate and did away with the lineage. Move 3rd Group to another base and move all of the SF stuff, including SWC to MacKall.
