Facebook Contributed More to Monitoring Americans Than All Other Sources Combined, and Cheaper, too.

Did you read the article or watch the video? From the article linked in the OP.

Hope you enjoyed the spoof folks. I thought it was great. And congrats to the Onion News Network gang on getting those 3.7 million YouTube views !!!

I was on FB for a bit, but because of the lack of security, privacy and FB selling all your information to anyone I deleted my account.

From what I understand not only the CIA but the FBI as well have backdoors into FB. Oh well.

Yes, after I got off the phone....it was a well done spoof. Regardless, there is more than a bit of truth in the premise....and I wasn't done.

I know there's a long thread here somewhere about how professional soldiers would be best served by deleting their fb accounts. For good reason, too.

It's funny, people still don't grasp the fact that it is so easy to piece together the puzzle that makes up your life.

It's not hard for someone to look at your profile, look at your friends' profiles, your likes, your links, and figure out who you are, where you live, and what you do.

I've found facebook profiles of guys at JSOC who must not care too much about who knows what they do. It just blows my mind that people in SMUs would have facebook profiles that reference their service, have publicly accesible photos of themselves in uniform with all kinds of SSI visible etc. etc.

Back in the day,we were not allowed to show our face in any public situation,in uniform,if we were requested to be photographed by the press, etc, our faces were to be blocked out and we were told that we should be careful not to disclose our name, etc. for our own safety(1956-59,77th and 1959-61,10th)......... It seems after that getting publicity for the Special Forces-Green Beret's was more important(1961-1966,12th).....:eek:Now guys are showing themselves not only in uniform but also giving their names, unit etc........:( We've come a long way now with FB especially.

Because of the bull shit patriot act. They can monitor FB, hotmail and many other free email accounts.

Was going to drop FB after using it to make contact for my 20 year reunion.
Changed my mind once the wife started using it regularly.

Tend to chime in on a few things from time to time.
Figured it was better to make my presence felt as a warning to potential miscreants.

Not it is due to CALEA not the patriot act.

But We love reading your email but your content has been a little lacking lately:p

I like the new functionality on FB that allows one to change privacy settings on a post by post basis.

Thanks, I understand this.

My point was that the wife already posts information which potentially allows someone with ill intentions to piece together vulnerabilities.
Deleting my account wouldn't do much to stem the flow of information.

Also, she (and by proxy, my kids) would be a softer target than I anyway.
Figured it was best to make my presence felt.

My family doesn't have to outrun the bear, they just have to outrun everyone else.
