When I was at Bragg there were some fairly upstanding bars in town during the 80's. Ricks, Flaming Mug, Bottoms Up, and let's not forget the Bragg Motel off Bragg Blvd. The women seemed awfully nice if you had a $20 bill in your pocket. :D

What's still standing today ??

8-Deuce,
OPSEC!!! PERSEC!!! - and violations of the 5th Amendment are all housed in this question. Shame on you - Nobody on this board ever frequented the Mug, Rick's, or BUp, and the Bragg Motel, for shame!

Beat your face, Airborne!:D

Although I think I remember a Foghat concert at the Mug.... And didn't Pat Benatar used to play there a bunch? (oops, see 1st line above)

Foghat ?? God we are getting old. YES !! Pat Benatar played at the Mug a couple of times during my stay at Bragg.

This thread could get interesting. Of course I have no knowledge of any events aleged at any of the above listed establishments. (thanks TR for that)

Council,

Would you be referring to private individual ownership (White Whiskey) or those that actually manufacturer, market, distill, and sell their whiskey and bourbon ?? As for Makers, do not take a tour of their facility, you will not find your car or your key's afterwords.

As to individual ownership of such distillery's , again I have no knowledge of any aleged whiskey making. :munchin However, if you are seeking a bourbon that is highly flammable, and can be used as malatav cocktails, there could be a place I know of.

Remember, those corn fields are not only for the produce at the Kentucky Krogers or Miers.

I have never had the opportunity to sample "white whiskey," but certainly would take advantage of the opportunity were it to present itself.

I intend to vacation in Kentucky at some point . . .

Counselor, you should have mentioned that when you came to Bragg.

We could have hooked you up with some.

I never remembered any pool playing at the Bottoms Up. What I do remember was being served cheap, stale pipe beer in plastic mugs and the ever so nice ladies that served them. Their outfits were worthy of the red carpet. :munchin

NDD,

What was the name of the club next doors to the Flaming Mug ?? I seem to remember spending some time there also.

The Night Owl (AKA, The Fight Owl) was across the street. Or so I hear.

I don't remember that the Bottoms Up opened at 0700 the day of the 7th Group Safety Rodeo in the motor pool. I didn't have to drive the HMMVEE into the surpintine until 0900.

What about the Blue Marble and Strac Lounge. Classics of the strip.

What about the Blue Marble and Strac Lounge. Strac Lounge...a piano bar, back in the 70s...a young man could get quite a bit of attention from the older women who haunted the place...so i heard...

I dont remember the Blue Marble or Strac Lounge, but there was a rather seedy Korean lounge on Bragg Blvd not far from the Bragg Motel. There's a rather hilarious story I could repeat, but it's best left to PM's or email.

HUMMERS ???? Heck, when I was with the 82nd the GAMA-GOAT was the only vehicle that sat in the motor pool. As well the duece and a half.

I remember watching Joan Jett at the 'Mug back in... early '90s I think.

I heard the 'Mug is long gone now, what's there in its place?

all from 95-00:
The mug closed in the late 90s, went to lots of good shows there when it was open. across the street from it was the que and ale strip club. bottoms up had a mud wrestling pit, down town we went to cloud nine. I remember the little Korean lounges down from the hotel(have a few stories there as well).

I miss Bragg in some sick way.:p I can remember my DD picking up about a dozen drunk brits all passed out along Bragg Blvd. after operation purple dragon seems we got kick out of about every strip club down that road.

Bro-
I think that both of those places were figments of your imagination, they did not exist, except in some beer induced hallucinations -- at least that'swhat I tell myself.

ther ewas a little place up off Yadkin - can't remember the name

Was the Mug the one that had 2 levels? As in a balcony type setup?

Hatchet used to play The Mug quite a bit (87). I saw them there as well. Speaking of Korean Lounges, anyone remember "The Moon Lounge?" It was Just up the street on the other side of the tracks from Ricks. I think it was pretty much where the museum is now. Mom has a matchbook display case at her house in MD, and when I was visiting last fall, I saw that it had a book from the lounge. I snapped a pic of it with my camera phone. I'll have to dig it up and post it. There was another one just down toward Ricks a few doors, but can't remember the name. I played a lot of pool with Bruce Miller (R.I.P.) upstairs at Ricks. There's a few others that I can picture but just cannot remember the names of. I always thought it was a laugh that a list of "off limits" places used to be posted at each company at SWC. The Bragg Motel was at the top of each one. There was actually a red light or two in there. :p

Slightly off base, but to anyone who ever spent any time at Ft. Gordon... "The Discoteque" is still there. "The Marine Lounge" closed a few years ago.

This may be a high jack.......... but I invested some time in some fine establishments along Benning's Victory Drive in the distant past(83-87). Anyone recon that A.O. lately?

Man, a lot of good times were had back then (83-85). Rick's, The Mug, Bottoms Up

Wasn't the Kit Kat or Kitty Kat the bar above Rick's?
Some of the more “seasoned” members here might even remember the “Vomit Comet”. Then again, if they were on it, probably not. :)

SG1987

Victory Drive, as we knew it, is no more. I went back to Benning 99-00 and the clubs were gone. I sure was looking forward to going back to the “Stop Light”
