Grizzly bear shatters barrier at Minnesota Zoo

And I'm guessing some underwear/panties had to be immediately changed....

Grizzly bear shatters barrier at Minnesota Zoo

Published July 07, 2015
·Associated Press

APPLE VALLEY, Minn. – A grizzly bear exhibit at the Minnesota Zoo is temporarily closed after one of the bears picked up a basketball-sized rock and shattered a barrier.

Startled visitors stood on the other side as the bear repeatedly slammed the rock into a pane of glass Monday morning.

Zoo animal collections manager Tony Fisher tells the Minneapolis Star Tribune (http://strib.mn/1JQshzo ) the five-layer pane stayed in place "like a windshield." No one was hurt.

The grizzlies were called back inside. The area will be closed until a temporary fix can be made ahead of a permanent pane being installed.

Perhaps our funnyman turned Senator could be sent in to entertain the bears while the glass is being fixed…

Fisher isn't sure which of the three bears is responsible for busting one of pane's five layers. But he suspects it was Kenai, a nearly full-grown male who is "usually the clown out there."
Franken's gonna be pissed now at this flagrant usurpation. He needs to have a brief word with Kenai.

Very brief.

I always kept this image to illustrate why it's good to be able to egress from your shelter in different ways.......................or at least why not to sleep by the door

I really didn't need to see that.

I'm headed out to the wilds of Kodiak shortly. Will be sleeping in a tent there for the next two weeks. I'll be sure to put someone else next to the door!

... Wandering off to find some brain bleach...

Publicity stunt. The bear is a paid cast member of the new Zoo tv series.

Here are a couple of tips: Some of the folks there on Kodiak favor a 44 mag revolver in a chest rig.

Bee Keepers up that way told of a trick they use to dissuade bears from their hives by use of an portable electric fence hooked up to a suspended tuna can ( meaty and juicy) when the bear licks the can, he is zapped. Honestly I would not bait the sleeping area, quite the opposite, ALL FOOD would be somewhere else.....I'll bet you know that.

Except that "the door" to your tent is wherever the bear decides it is.
