Glen passed away this past Friday at his home in Houston, TX. Glen
served in C/5/19 from 2008 until 2011 when he retired. He leaves behind his
wife, his son and a 3-week old baby. Please keep his family in your thoughts
and prayers.

I am an inactive member of SFA CH 39 in Houston. Do you know if Glen was a member? The Chapter is very active and supportive of the families in these times.

Also, If you have contact with Glen's family, please ask if they are interested in a Patriot Guard escort. Glen earned it and I can try to help line this up with the local group.

He was just a simple soldier and his ranks are growing thin
But his presence should remind us; we may need his like again,
For when countries are in conflict, then we find the soldier's part
Is to clean up all the troubles that the politicians start.
If we cannot do him honor while he's here to hear the praise,
Then at least let's give him homage at the ending of his days.......

Perhaps just a simple headline in the paper that might say:
OUR COUNTRY IS IN MOURNING, FOR A SOLDIER DIED TODAY. (author unknown)

The passing of our soldiers often go unnoticed and unsung by most of the world, remembered only by family and friends. Wish it were not so. May he RIP, his family will be in my thoughts and prayers.........

Houston A/2/12 SF Contingency, BG Pike, S. Iverson, and Linda Greer (SFA Chapter 39),



Today’s memorial service for former C/5/19 SF member Glen E. McClain was well attended and well represented by folks in uniform. Glen served in C/5/19 from 2008-2011 until his retirement, and before that in 10th SF Group in Germany. The chapel was completely filled and I observed perhaps another 30 or so in the anteroom during the service there. Three of Glen’s former team mates spoke highly of him during the service. Glen was a highly decorated SF radio operator, Halo jump master, and SF diver.



Several members of C/5/19, including the Company Commander attended in dress uniform. One of Glen’s team buddies from 10th Group drove from West Virginia to attend. One of his SF buddies flew in from Georgia. Bruce Perry from SFA Chapter 39 brought the 1st SF regimental flag. He and I were dressed in our SFA jackets, ties, and berets.



Ted Heckerman, formerly on ODA 214 (93-94) drove over from Austin in his dress greens. He and I visited Al Habelman’s grave after the service (photo below). Also attending were a couple of other SF soldiers who knew Al. One was a security contractor who worked under Al in Iraq. He went through pre-SFAS in C/5/19 SF REC prior to going through SFQC. I thought he looked familiar to me from the days I was an instructor in the REC. Another SF soldier knew Al through his father, who was one of Al’s running buddies. His father was a Navy guy who spoke at Al’s memorial service in Houston in April 2005 wearing his dress whites.
