Army Berets Going Away?
Just saw this on a cover of the Army Times magazine.
Here's a run down of the story: Is the Army Beret Getting Dumped?
From the article: On his Facebook page, Sergeant Major of the Army Raymond Chandler asked, “If you could change one thing about the Army Combat Uniform (ACU), what would it be?” Over half of the 165 comments mentioned getting rid of the beret in some form or fashion. Some recommended keeping the beret for only NCOs and officers (probably from junior enlisted troops) and others (like myself) recommended only keeping the beret for dress uniform use. The only other complaint that popped up more than the beret was the velcro we use on our uniform.
Any thoughts?

Nope - new regime coming in so they need to rattle some cages and appear to be doing something "for the troops". Were they really serious they'd have a chat with our senior leadership about either fighting the war(s) to win or getting the hell out.

Only half? Were the other comments about getting rid of velcro? or returning collars and branch insignia? or slanting the pockets and adding bellows? How about making them actually blend in with something? Sometimes the only thing I do like about ACU's are the ankle pockets. But I got to wear Jungles; I'm a hard sell.

Amen. Teaching reconnaissance to scouts in the woods of Kentucky wearing the Czechoslovakian Urban Assault kit was a bit daunting. Most of the instructors wore the Woodland BDU until the wear out date in April 2008. It makes OP camoflauge all the more important a task in position preparation.

Do you have to put them on to read your "lens-static" compass?

OK guys enough is enough........I'm ashamed that you're treating a old man like that.... You're going to get to be Dozer's age someday and know how tough it is when your eye sight starts going on you........ Hang in their partner I'm providing covering fire for you........

TFS,
What do you think of the stetsons? Did you like them when they used them the first time?

Actually the Army never issued Stetsons. The 1872 campaign hats were cheap wool not beaver. Hotter and less durable than real Stetsons.
I hated mine, although it did stop a Comanche arrow onct.
