Has anyone used a rolling tourniquet for IV starts?
North American Rescue is making a rolling tourniquet (BOA IV) for IV starts. I like the thought of it; it sounds like it should help with difficult sticks, however I am unable to find any info online (searched google and here) except that a clinical trial is underway. Has anyone used one of these, and if so what are your thoughts on it?

As in my profile - civilian RN working in critical care.
Came across this forum when searching for info on arterial tourniquets. It seems like there is a a lot of good information presented here (I've mainly looked only at the medical threads). As this product seems to be marketed towards the tactical medicine crowd, I thought someone here might be able to give input.

John,
You received an email when you registered - most of us tend to ignore those pro forma emails when we register for different forums.
Professional Soldiers is a little different, and due to the nature of our profession, we like to know who we're inviting into our house (so to speak).
If you re-read that initial email, you will probably notice a bit about posting an introduction about yourself in the appropriate area.
Don't worry, many new members have to have this pointed out to them, and generally all is forgiven after compliance is achieved <g>.

Thank you for following direction, if after a bit of nudging.
I have and do utilize the BOAs for IVs. They work on some people; others they do not. You will find, in a given populace, that techniques work on some people that do not on others.
My advice to you is use whats works for the patient you have, not what worked for the patient you had or might have. The BOA is a tool. It isnt meant to replace assessment of a patients condition or needs.
