Why Your State Sucks

Interesting graphic summary.

Richard

Why Your State Sucks: The Great American Map of Fail
Time, 26 Jan 2011

Let's face it, we totally judge people based on where they're from. Here's your handy cheat sheet to each state's worst quality.

There's no shortage of derogatory comments about some states, such as New Jersey or Florida, but have you gotten tongue-tied when meeting someone from North Dakota? Well, this map is your key to a proper comeback – and according to a Daily Beast poll, the Peace Garden State has the ugliest people. It's a little known, yet “scientifically proven” zinger that's might make a few North Dakotan enemies.

Each of the nifty fifty ranks last in something, though some milestones certainly outweigh the others. Some accolades are tame and actually quite bland. Ohio is the nerdiest state, and Iowa has the oldest residents – words that would cause nary a reaction when thrown out in a verbal spar.

Other states come as no surprise: Wisconsin, home to MillerCoors, has the most binge drinkers, New Yorkers, who head to the Big Apple each day via congested roadways and too few trains, have the longest commutes, and Michigan, no thanks to the struggling auto industry, has the most folks out of work. Some states' awards completely flip America's perception of them. Mormon Utah is first in porn watching? Sunny California has the grossest air? And what's the deal with STDs down there in Louisiana?

But scanning to the Great Plains and out West, you'll notice a few completely shameful stats. We don't want to know about the possible animal-loving going on in Washington state, and it appears South Dakota and Nebraska may have issues respecting women.

Regardless of where you're from, your state has a milestone that you and your statewide kin probably shouldn't be proud of. But the real question is: do you contribute to your state's worst quality?

So if I understand the graphic correctly...you being an educator contribute to the worst high school graduation rate...whereas me being the husband of an educator is content to have her work for the lowest wages.

The los Angeles area, when the Spanish arrived in the 1700's, was called Valle de las Fumas, Valley of the Smoke. 250 years later, nothing has changed...

Actually -

Quote:
Vermont ranked first, with 96.6 percent graduating. South Carolina ranked last with 55.2 percent; Washington, D.C., isn't included. The national rate of graduating students in 2009 was 69.3 percent.

http://politifact.com/texas/statemen...united-states/
Quote:
Out of 308,427 students in the class of 2009 Grade 9 cohort,

• 80.6% graduated
• 8.6% continued in high school the year following their anticipated graduation
• 1.4% received GEDs
• 9.4% dropped out
The four-year, on-time graduation rate (79.1%)
increased from the class of 2008 by 1.5 percentage points while the longitudinal dropout rate (10.5%) decreased.

This timeline highlights changes in education policy and Texas’ statewide longitudinal graduation rate as calculated by TEA since the Class of 1996. As the state adopted the more rigorous National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) dropout definition and increased TAKS performance standards, declines in the graduation rate between 2005 and 2007 were seen. The graduation rate increased between 2007 and 2009.

I'm not sure where Time got their stats but...

I guess if you're from Texarkana, you're more or less screwed.

Our neighbors to the north (Utah) are highest in porn usage.
Kinda gives new meaning to the term "Jack Mormon".

No, that's Montana, in Wyoming we have sex is Bears.

She will go into heat once every 2 years and only for a week. Our chances are slim, but any bear will do.

A lot of biting, scratching, claw marks,.....

Thanks to Richard I figured out why my darn horse kept running away when we were in the barn. As soon as I told her we weren't moving to Washington she let out a snort and went to her stall.

FYI: Its a toss up between Drunk Driving in MT and wife beating...

Ya, you may be right, I think I'll stick to my own species and respectfully chase, charm, and or otherwise find myself in the arms of a pretty girl.

Hey, under DADT can I openly act heterosexual? The occasional reference to a nice set of legs under a summer dress on a lovely woman? Can I hold hands with my GF while we walk across post with me in uniform?
