Newt
Newt is a little too late to the party.
He's trying to wedge his way back into the Republican's favor. He's thinking of the 2012 run for pres.
He needs to just go back and sit on the sofa with Nancy.

Newt is one of the smartest guys in D.C. He was successfully demonized by the left.
I think he's got a good handle on the issues we face.
And I agree with your assessment that he'd like to run in 2012.
I watched all 5 sections of his speech last night and agreed with most of his assessments and prescriptions ...
Especially the remark that "This is MADNESS!"

True, but that was the 90s

True but that was in the 90s. He spent the first half of the 2000s sucking up to the left.
Little hard to do the "Follow me, Boys" routine when you're about 2 miles behind the real leaders.
He jumped into NY23 - late, and on the wrong side. Him and Steele should have just bowed out of it and kept their collective mouths shut.
Excuse me while I don't get all excited with Newt. His time has come and gone.
And is he smart? He should be smart enough to know that if a number of conservatives run in 2012 they will only split the conservative vote in the primary giving us another Lame canditate. But then again it's all about "ME" for some politicians.

Very well put. I really hope the Republican Party will back a Conservative candidate that will cater to both the 'political types' and the 'not-so-involved' conservatives. Like you said, Newt's time has come and gone. Besides, he has too many skeletons in his closet to garner a ton of interest from the Republican Party.

Too bad Newt is just as big a hypocrit as every other politician out there. He didn't need to be demonized by the left, he did it himself. He had a field day with Clinton and the Lewinsky scandal, only to find out he had been dittering on the side as well.

Unfortunately, that seems to be everyone in government.

Most of them have not learned that if they just keep their mouths shut about certain subjects they would be a whole lot better off. But then they see the lure of the camera and have to put their two cents out there for everyone to see. It ALWAYS comes back and bites you in the butt.
I wouldn't have a problem with Newt if he would have kept his mouth shut about the whole Clinton affair.

Guess I am not swayed by Newt's "affair." Men AND Women have affairs...it does not change the correctness of their chosen professional message, IMVHO. Sure, politicans have affairs...so do Doctors, Professors, Lawyers, Accountants....

Exactly why he should have kept his big trap shut instead of painting himself "holier than thou", and then get caught doing the exact same thing. I could care less if either of them had an affair. That is between them and their wives. The fact that Newt siezed upon the affair for his own politcal gains is what galls me. I lost all respect for him when his affair came to light, and regardless of whether or not his views on the current political situation are correct, he is still a political hack who holds himself to a different standard than everyone else. Not someone I would EVER vote for.

Afchic,
It's politics, not a wrothy endeavor like Military Service, where the measure of a man/woman is their character and their word is entrusted to keep a fellow soldier alive vs. dead. It is politics. Newt is a politician, and I do not hold them to the same standards.
The ONLY exception is the Office of the President of The United States. That is a sacred office, and it should be held as such, without any blow-jobs from non spouses...IMHO.

That my dear is why we as a nation are in the situation we currently find ourselves. Because we don't hold our politicians to a higher standard. It's ok to lie, cheat and steal, as long as they are doing it in behalf of their constituents??? Nope, not a chance, not in my book. They are charged with writing the laws for this great nation, and if they can not be trusted, then why do we even bother? The laws they write have an effect on the warrirors of this great nation. And if they can't be trusted to do so honestly, then they put us all at risk. IMHO
