The Road
By Cormac McCarthy
I purchased and read this over the course of about six hours. Being a big fan of both post-apocalypse sci-fi and all of McCarthy's books (as I've mentioned before), I had been looking forward to reading the book since its initial release. Thanks to its recent release in paperback, I was finally able to afford it in the "Oprah's Book Club" edition...
Without a doubt this is one of the most emotional and intense books I have ever read. The messages of never giving in and the underlying power of the human spirit factor VERY significantly herein, this is definitely the kind of book I want to bring with me to selection...when the time comes. Plus, it is a very thrilling story, and an easy read. As somewhat of an aside, I feel that this novel grabbed me on a visceral level that was reminiscent of my first time reading "Gates of Fire". Very different books, but similarly affecting.
I strongly reccomend picking this one up and giving it a look, or, if anyone on the boards has already read it, I would be very interested in hearing their opinion.
