Great

Once again, a fine example of what happens when you operate like a corporation.

What I want to know is why I didn't have a drill instructor that looked like that!

Nice recruiting incentive.

Playboe

I'm not mad at her by any stretch of the means, however it seems a sucessful attempt at being relieved of hard duty in the near future.

She's definetley a REMF now.

Sorry, I had to go pick-up my copy of PB.

We have cultivated a dominating mindset that we operate like a corporation. You can't discipline; you can't tell 'em to remove their thinking apparatus out of their six; and leaders can't "officially" deal with problems until they happen and then are very limited.

There was probably a pattern of behavior (whether observed first-hand or not), that this individuals' leadership had knowledge of and could do nothing about because of the "feel good" mentality senior leadership has embraced.

Most folks in the AF, especially those who've been around for any duration of know that when they bring discredit upon our service they will suffer nothing.

90% of AF personnel could not fire an M4 or M9 to protect themselves if any given installation was attacked. Most of those who can't defend themselves will tell you "that's not my job."

Sounds alot like Corporate America with Union by-laws to me.

I found that story in my local paper. http://www.mysanantonio.com/news/mil...y.304bdaf.html

It seems that the press (especially in the above link) is trying to spin this as her being prosecuted for something we should all praise her for.

I would like to point out that the has 12 years of service and is an E-5. This leads me to believe that their might be a few things in her EPR's that have kept her off the promotion list. This points to other errors in judgment.

First: so how's the spread in PB, I don't have access right now, she doesn't look that hot in pic on fox news but I guess airbrushing does wonders

Second: spectre919 is right that folks in the AF for the most part are not military minded, they have gotten way too far from their Army roots. Over the past several decades or so the AF has tried to operate more like a corporation than a military service branch, thus the change to the current blues uniform and the quality approach to doing things, which is making yet another comeback. Hell many airmen will try to tell you they only work 0730 to 1630 That's not to say that all Airforce types are bad, they're not, in my career I've met allot of good folks that are serving honorably, but most have no concept of what the military is supposed to be about.

Lastly: Yes most airmen couldn't engage a threat with either an M-4 or M-9 if it was sitting on their chest, there are many reasons for this, I think it's partially lack of training, but also because of the culture, or maybe it's just because they teach that when the base is being overrun, just turn out the lights and hide under the desk. In retrospect after seeing that first hand I should have switched services!

You can normally find Air Force NCO's like this in the plethora of Team Rooms and "GB Clubs" forward.........

I can remember several just like this that used to frequent the GB club at Incirlik, Turkey, Sarajevo, and countless un-named places.....

Shocker!!

I can't say I'm surprised about this, restores a little of my faith in the system. While I believe in the freedom of speech completely, this isn't the type of behavior I believe our NCO's should be displaying.

SAN ANTONIO — An Air Force drill sergeant who posed nude for Playboy magazine has been removed from active duty, she said Wednesday.

Whether that amounts to an honorable discharge, as Michelle Manhart also says, is unclear.

Manhart, who appeared in a six-page spread in Playboy's February issue, said she got word Friday that she was removed from "extended active duty" and was also told that she was demoted in rank from staff sergeant to senior airman.

"I'm disappointed in our system," Manhart told The Associated Press on Wednesday. "They went too far with it."

Manhart said that being removed from duty meant that she reverted to her Air National Guard status and that she submitted a "resignation" to the Guard, which she said is pending. Manhart was a member of the Iowa Air National Guard before going on extended active duty.

Manhart offered The AP a copy of a signed "request and authorization for separation" form that indicates her "character of service" was "honorable." It is not clear whether the form is an official discharge order.

Oscar Balladares, a spokesman for Lackland Air Force Base, confirmed that Manhart was removed from extended active duty on Friday, but he said Lackland did not discharge her.

"She was not discharged but she was removed from active duty status, and thus reverted to National Guard status," Balladares said. "It is not up to the Air Force — it is not our jurisdiction to discharge her."

Lt. Col. Greg Hapgood, a spokesman for the Iowa National Guard, said "at this point we don't have any separation documents regarding Senior Airman Manhart and until we receive documentation of her separation from the Air Force, at this point we don't have her on duty status in the Iowa National Guard."

Manhart, a 30-year-old mother of two, said the military's action against her hinged on the fact that she was pictured in the magazine wearing her uniform.

She was photographed in uniform yelling and holding weapons under the headline "Tough Love." The following pages showed her partially clothed wearing dog tags while working out, as well as completely nude. After the pictorial hit newsstands in January, Manhart was relieved of her duties pending an investigation.

Manhart said she was given a letter of reprimand in late January, told not to talk to the media and that an "unfavorable information file" was established on her. Her husband is also in the military.

Balladares said he could not comment on any of the "administrative actions" taken against her because of privacy concerns. He said, though, that she was not prohibited from talking to the media.

Manhart said she is looking forward to pursuing a modeling and entertainment career.

"My family is going to stay here, but I do have plans to pursue anything that comes my way, whether it be in LA or New York or Hollywood," she said. "As far as moving on in my life, I'm happy. I hope this works out for my family and me."

Playboy spokeswoman Theresa Hennessey said Playboy had no comment on Manhart's case.

They have some very talented makeup artists and Photoshop wizards at PB. It's hard to reconcile the pictures in the magazine with the one from the Fox News link in the first post. She bears a striking resemblance to a young Jane Seymour in some of the pics.
