2nd SF Group?

Greetings All,

Just a quick question?

Is there or has there ever been a 2nd SF Group?

Backround:
We have a new supervisor at my work and we all needed to have a one on one with him.
He was explaining his military backround and mentioned he was in SF. I asked what Group since I was in the 7th (untabbed) back in the 70's. He mentioned 2nd Group and that he served back in the 90's.

I said I never heard of that SF Group before but I did not want to press it.

I have even googled it and have come up with nothing!

Thanks in advance,
C

Yes, the 2nd SFG was a USAR Special Forces Group with it's headquarters in Columbus, Ohio - activated in 1961, and inactivated in January 1966.

I remember hearing tales about that group when I was growing up. My dad was part of that outfit.

Constituted 5 July 1942 in the Army of the United States as Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment, 2nd Battalion, First Regiment, 1st Special Service Force, a joint Canadian-American organization. Activated 9 July 1942 at Fort William Henry Harrison, Montana. Disbanded 6 January 1945 in France.

Reconstituted 15 April 1960 in the Regular Army; concurrently, consolidated with Headquarters and Service Company, 2nd Infantry Battalion (see ANNEX) and consolidated unit designated as Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2d Special Forces Group, 1st Special Forces. Withdrawn 14 December 1960 from the Regular Army and allotted to the Army Reserve (organic elements concurrently constituted). Group activated 15 March 1961 with Headquarters at Columbus, Ohio. Inactivated 31 January 1966 at Columbus, Ohio.

It might be interesting to hear how he was in that Group in the 1990's.

We also found out about the 61st SFG and a couple of others that were inactivated and brought under 19, 20, 11 and 12 groups in the 60's when we had a question about an officer awhile back.

Been in this outfit for over 20 years, and still learning new things..

The nice thing is most of that stuff happened in the 50's, 60's and early 70's.

Some poser under 55 years old had better stick with the "known" stuff.

Actually, I was thinking that we may want him to stick with the bizarre stuff... makes it a little easier in target identification 101, 202, and 303...
