SFAS expiration

As of 20 June 2007, your SFAS certificate is only good for three years. There are several members of my training team that must now go through SFAS again even though they were selected the first time.

SFAS expiration caveat

The three year SFAS rule has one caveat and you can request a waiver.
If you were selected and attended Phase II within 3 years but were dropped from the course you do not need to go through SFAS again. You will, however need to complete a re-enrollment packet.
You also can submit a waiver request if you are outside the 3 year window. If you are close to 3 years and have extenuating circumstances such as deployments you may be granted a waiver. Waivers are granted on a case by case basis.

Latest SWC Policy on SFAS expiration

1. Requests for exception to policy for the SFAS three year rule WILL NOT be entertained by the Commanding General, USAJFKSWCS. Any Soldier that attended SFAS (and was selected) more than three years ago and has not attended the SFQC during that period will have to attend SFAS again in order to attend the SFQC. There are no exceptions.

2. Soldiers that were previously enrolled in the SFQC (but were dropped) are exempt from this rule, but are required to submit a re-enrollment request packet prior to SFQC attendance. If the re-enrollment request is approved, the Soldier is cleared for SFQC attendance.

3. Former enlisted Soldiers that were selected, but received a commission after SFAS do NOT have to attend SFAS again solely because they received a commission. However, once again, if their SFAS date was over three years ago, they must attend SFAS again.

Does anyone know where I can get a copy of the Policy Memo, or in what AR this is listed. I Was Selected in Feb 05 Attended the "Q" in May 05 Med Dropped in Nov 05 After Injuring My back on a Jump.
The Reason I haven’t retuned to finish yet ( if anyone cares) is that, after healing, My Battalion ( NG GROUP) didn’t have the Training $$$ to send me and instead of waiting around for them to get that figured out I had the opportunity and I volunteered to Deploy to OIF , where I had the Privilege of Serving on an ODA for the entire deployment. We Got back over the summer and am Now getting ready to Set things in motion for return to finish, But as I understand it the $$$ is still an issue, The only way that they are getting it done, is to Mobilize
( title 10 orders) students to pay for school, which takes a while and I may not be able to get back to SWC before My 3 year window closes...It may be a non-issue if I can get orders before then but , just in case I would just like to know where I stand in regards to SFAS

Thanks

New SFAS expiration policy

The previous 3 year expiration for SFAS has been changed. You now have 5 years to in-process the SFQC from the date you were selected.

SFAS expiration

The NG Liason might have the regs, but SWCS will have the final say and they don't always jive. One member of my unit had to go again as he missed the two year cut-off (this was in 2007). I just got out of the Q and as always; everything has changed. Count on going to SFAS regardless of what anyone has told you. I think the waivers are considered if there was a hardship or deployment that kept you from reporting for the Q.
