Quick Erect Antenna, AB-1386/U for FM

Here's an antenna mast you might want to consider.
AB-1386/U NSN: 5895-01-381-6341 quick-erect antenna that raises to a height of 33 feet, much higher than the obsolete OE-254. Check it out at the website below witn NSNs for other attachments and accessories. It is class 9, non-recoverable item so it can be ordered through your motor pool. However, the FEDLOG says it costs $3998. http://www.armyproperty.com/Equipment-Info/QEAM.htm

A new antenna to put on your mast:
COM201B NSN: 5895-01-498-0332. Class 9, Non recoverable, $2201.82. Attached is a spec-sheet. You can google "COM201B Antenna" for about 31,000 hits.

69harley, were you able to get any results from that field expedient satcom antenna??

Just curious, as we will be teaching/showing it to the 18E's, and would like a little technical data to put out, like direction of radiation, DB gain, feed point impedence, etc. Just looking at it, it's pretty obvious about direction of radiation, and with the two loops, I would ASSUME it would be about 100 ohms, but the DB gain would be nice.

Glebo,

The expediant antenna did 2.6-2.9 db across the entire UHF SATCOM transmit spectrum.

Antenna

It appears that it falls into the normal dB range for an average antenna.

If anyone has any other cool NSNs to share...
Lookup of the above NSN on STAMIS has it still there; our C&E shop has same device but with binding posts+banana jacks on the end.

NSN: 5935-00-410-1399 (Pomona Electronics PN 1296)

[Same company also has a 6-pack kit containing M & F BNC with either straight spring binding posts or banana w/bp, as well as M & F adapter sleeves. 'Bout $56 from Digikey.]

Using banana plug option when pre-packing homegrown wire radiators has attraction to me as something caveman simple in cold wx/gloved hands.

Happy trails.
