FBI, Apple begin inquiries into nude celebrity photo leaks (and FBI idiots)

So let me get this straight, you're 23-25 years old and keep nude photos of yourself on your IPhone and in your online IPhone account. Someone hacks that account and the FBI, no really the Federal Bureau of Investigation gets involved.

Drug wars, ISIS, gangs and even Lois Learner does not get the attention of the FBI but taking nude photos from idiots does. Please tell me with a show of hands how many of you keep nudes of yourself in an online account???? Nude photos of yourself on your own phone? And tell me that even if you were stupid enough to keep such photos do you really think the Federal Bureau of Investigation would get involved if that account was hacked?

The level of government corruption & incompetence in this country is staggering. And no one holds the FBI accountable for its actions, or inaction. If you're a rich celebrity the FBI will assist in arresting and prosecuting those bad hackers that took photos from idiots, idiots that are now quite happy those photos hit the internet to boost their popularity and the average American citizen is footing the bill.

Government corruption & incompetence is now the American way of life. Enjoy it........

LOS ANGELES – The FBI and Apple said Monday they are beginning inquiries into allegations that online accounts of celebrities including Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence and model Kate Upton were hacked, after naked photos of the stars were posted online.

The FBI said in a statement it is "aware" of the hacking allegations and is "addressing the matter."

Unfortunately, once the "enter" key is pushed...it is out there for anyone to exploit.

The thing that I don't understand is how -- in 2014 -- we still have people who hit the "enter" button on a computer and expect their stored information to be permanently secure from hackers.

It just doesn't happen like that.

The cloud is just that...a cloud.

Hello this was a APPLE Cloud, I think Apple has the man power be hind them and the money to find out WTH happen.

It was likely a Russian Teenager Hacker doing it for fun and ME time.

Must say, I always thought Jennifer Lawrence had a hot body, but HELLO. Just saying.

Maybe they should offer the hacker a job finding the missing IRS emails. Anyone dumb enough to upload nude and porno photos to the cloud it too dumb to worry about.

If he can resurrect an intentionally-wiped Blackberry that would be a serious career bump.

And from what I heard some of them should've just kept their clothes on - clearly a job for the EPA.

and......they (FBI) refuse to prosecute Stolen Valor cases because the amount of money involved in a fraud was not considered enough.

Is it possible the people most upset are the NSA "hackers" trying to protect their turf?

Well, TS, looks like the feds are going to be hampered in their pursuit of the celebrity hacks

Quote:
FBI Director James Comey says he is worried that, with recent and upcoming updates to their smartphone operating systems, Apple and Google are making life easier for criminals.

"What concerns me about this is companies marketing something expressly to allow people to place themselves beyond the law," Comey told reporters, according to the Wall Street Journal.
A subscription is req'd for the Journal, but you can follow the gist of it here.

Imagine that. By releasing a product that enables citizens to maintain some semblance of privacy, Apple and Google are placing us beyond the law.

From 06MAR2013:
FBI 'secretly spying' on Google users, company reveals

Quote:
The FBI used National Security Letters -- a form of surveillance that privacy watchdogs call “frightening and invasive” -- to surreptitiously seek information on Google users, the web giant has just revealed.

Google’s disclosure is “an unprecedented win for transparency,” privacy experts said Wednesday. But it’s just one small step forward.

“Serious concerns and questions remain about the use of NSLs,” the Electronic Frontier Foundation’s Dan Auerbach and Eva Galperin wrote. For one thing, the agency issued 16,511 National Security Letters in 2011, the last year for which data was available. But Google was gagged from saying just how many letters it received -- leaving key questions unanswered.

PSA

By the way, for any knuckledraggers out here, do not think for a second that the feds (or someone with a decent level of know-how) could not exploit your SRAM/DRAM and retrieve your encryption keys. There are measures to prevent this, especially if you're running a linux based OS (see TRESOR or Loop Amnesia).

If they want to decrypt your info, they can. I realize this is off topic, but wanted to clarify what I previously posted about the FBI having their thong in a bunch due to new encryption protocols by Apple and Google. Also, don't forget that Apple and Google still retain the encryption keys and they've been known to play well with the feds. Judges don't mind forcing them to do so, either.

The FBI Director believes that securing your privacy (since the government has the opposite interest these days) is putting yourself "above the law."
Maybe Comey should file a Hurt Feelings Report.

Reflect hard on the perspective someone like that is starting from, that securing a right makes one a criminal.
