Did the President blink?

This is one area that I totally agree with our President. I am a big fan of building the wall and/or increasing border security overall. Don't see how we can move forward the even bigger issue of illegals in this country until we do. Just interested how you guys see the way this played out. I'm sure the spin will be we had to shutdown the Gov. so we could justify the emergency. Not sure I would buy that.

Well, he gave Pelosi and Schumer a chance to run around claiming victory.

He should enact the National Emergency EO on Monday morning and immediately have a friendly judge challenge it on a simple element (steel vs. concrete, etc.). Then chase it quickly up to the Supremes, have it overturned and move on.

By then the Super Bowl will be over and the TSA and ATC threat to ATL will be over and he will be able to shut it down again if necessary.

Clearly I picked the wrong time to stop sniffing glue. But why did the admin think that closing the Gov. would give it leverage over the Dims in the first place?

You are channeling my very old sig pic.

Oddly, shutdowns almost always favor the Republicans. He's not going to swing radical Left Dems, but he can draw in some Libertarians and Never-Trumpers and possibly some skunks in the middle of the road.

Think of the non-essential Feds that are being compared to the homeless. How many of those 800,000 are insulted by that comparison?

Now, he just needs to listen to me and make the checkmate move.

Yes, and too soon! It was just getting interesting with the FAA shutdown on Friday. Should have let that one run all weekend and then negotiate some sort of limited reopening of critical infrastructure on Monday if a better deal was not reached beforehand. The rest of the TSA was right behind that in running out of people to adequately screen everyone without new major delays or critical impacts. They compensated too well for everyday Americans to feel the pain. Much like the 18-years of war in the Middle East and the new wars brought to us by the last administration.

I’m just a little bit peeved now that I worked six holidays in a row and sacrificed time off with my family and “use or lose” leave may be permanently lost because of this stupidity on both sides but I blame mostly the dimocrats and only two of them. If anyone held the government workers “hostage” it was Nancy and Chuck playing games with the President. He was clearly available to get some kind of deal done that improves border security and keeps the government open at the earliest.

The minute Nancy said the SOTU was off because of “security concerns” the President and Sec. DHS should have said the same regarding the Super Bowl; “We regret to inform the American people but the agencies under the Department of Homeland Security responsible for security is unable to perform a critical assessment of pre-Super Bowl security related activities necessary to ensure that on game day everyone is protected.” “Also that if a protracted shutdown continues other federal law enforcement agencies will be required to secure our Southern border due to the ongoing crisis and humanitarian emergencies happening at our border with Mexico.”

The POTUS should have ordered the military back to the border, reassigned federal LE agents from DEA, INS, CBP, TSA, and others and said: “we are doubling our effort to prevent the loss of life of a single person - child or adult - due to the undermanned efforts to secure vast open sections of our border, and to process an unprecedented number of asylum seekers. The death of one child was one too many, two or the more than three who have died in our custody are too much. We must stop the flow of illegal migration and address this issue once and for all.” “If the Democrats are against a physical barrier of any kind (which they have always supported in the past) then we must create a human wall of Border Agents capable of detecting and deterring illegal immigration 24/7 with sufficient long term funding to cover medical, retirement, and salary costs. Technology alone cannot prevent the deaths and suffering of thousands of people who attempt to cross our border every day. Some, more will die in the process at the border or before. That will not be on my hands and $5.7-billion is the down payment not what is needed to make our country safe and fix our immigration issues!”

At the very least throughout the shutdown he tried to negotiate some sort of agreement with the dims, this had to have resonated with most people. Pelosi and Schumer had no interest in setting down with him. Trump needs to go more to the public via TV speeches to get his point across, call the dims out publicly for what most of us know they are.

Agree totally. Just one correction. TSA are not LE Agent’s and are not Sworn, they have no Law Enforcement authority and can not detain/arrest anyone. They are just Door checkers for airports. If they detect anything illegal they have to call for a real LEO, local, State or Federal to act on it.

When did the activities of our government become about an individual politician "winning" or "losing"?

Identity politics brought to us by the “me generation” spearheaded “you didn’t build that!”

I have heard two people in the past couple days, one being my mother, the other a fat and obnoxious millennial kid in a check out line, question how can 'One Man' shut down the government

Did the President blink, or did he back the Dims into a corner of their own making?

The Democrats have promised all along to "negotiate in good faith" once the government was reopened.

That bluff has been called.

If they don't do exactly that now, they have no leg to stand on if Trump simply declares an emergency next month, noting they got everything they asked for and still refused to deal, and starts building the wall they said they wanted time and time again, before he was president, by going right over their heads, when they turn out to be the same lying sacks of shit they've always been.
And if Trump did blink and ultimately there's no wall funding, well he won't be the first Republican POTUS to fail to win over the progressive socialists, deep state and globalists.

I think this is all kneejerk reactions to previous administrations of career politicians and swamp critters that have conditioned us to be hyper sensitive to every tactic wanting results but expecting failure.....we got screwed so many times before by weak Presidents folding on stances which has led most of us to believe that everything we see politically in public is a drama for public consumption but what goes on behind closed doors are smiles, handshakes and swampy corrupt deals and we the citizens are the fools.

I for one do not underestimate Trumps cunning when it comes to Politics my gut feel is this is a reset while Democrats sit back on their laurels believing they won a victory and now boasting....Trump took the pressure off the shutdown pay issue that had been gaining momentum and in the publics opinion it seems they could not shake the shutdowns negative messaging and stay with the real issue......even conservative commentators were turning.....tactics.....withdraw from the battle....claim what you can from it.....regroup......turn the responsibility to keep the government open onto the Democrats.....Trump continues to be underestimated by even his own party...but the word is Democrats are turning on Pelosi/Schumer on their own stances.

The President did not blink....he is so far proving to be more than the swamp can handle...there has never been a POTUS who has had to deal the forces of corruption and evil of a government, mainstream media and pop culture seeking to get him out of the way so they can continue business as usual.... they do not understand his level of resilience and desire to win.....no way a man like Trump will sit back and lose to a nitwit like Pelosi or a condescending snake like Schumer who couldn't look Trump in the eye.

What's Next??

Will the Gov. shutdown? You can't go to see the Liberty Bell, The stop & frisk TSA calling out sick, long lines at the airports, more food banks to feed the "Delayed Pay" non-essential Gov. workers. Trump declares a National Emergency, The Ninth Circut Court agrees to an injunction to stop building the wall, Trump declares Marshall Law, has Federal Marshalls arrest the congressional dissenters, the MSM, where does this go and how far? Who does the Military support? Meanwhile, the largest power company in the U.S. has declared Bankruptcy Lights out for California, Liberals threaten to boycott Starbucks! and on and on and on.
