It won't matter. The political blood dance has already begun.

My thoughts and prayers to all the innocent victims in this senseless tragedy. The shooter was indeed a coward, and so many people died because of his unthinkable actions. What a sad day in our country.
Agree with Box on his comments about the Las Vegas PD, always in the forefront, always there to protect those in need, and always there to face danger head on.

Condolences for the victims and families.
I wonder how effective is the SWAT sharpshooter in such scenario.
304 m to the hotel and about 108 m high for the 32nd floor. For 304.8 m of flight path the police .308 and .223 should be adequate. 19 to 20 degrees is not really high angle. I suppose the nighttime condition (swat has NOD or thermal?) and risk of over penetration made the option non viable. Wished it was otherwise though. Even without connecting, impacts in the room would have at least delay/distract/scare the perp or hasten the self inflicted shot and lower the body count

The American people are well served by those who run toward the sound of gunfire.

With the attacks on the Scouts (Boy, Girl, and Other) I think that we have dropped the ball on First Aid. Eyewitness accounts say that people were comforting people who were bleeding out instead of trying to treat them.

Agreed, but I guess even that is better than standing there filming it all on their phones....

Pat, are you an EMT, Paramedic or medic? Ever been in a mass casualty situation? Or shot at? Ever seen the dead or dying on a battlefield?
My point, I’m sure the folks there did the best they could, the best they knew how, given the situation. Very few folks on this planet are trained for that sort of situation. Boy and girl scout training is nothing compared to real training. (And yes, I was a national registered EMT.)
And I'm sure many of the folks there were in shock seeing so many dead and wounded.
Again, I'm sure they did the best they could.

TS, I think Pat does make a good point though. I didn't think he was disparaging the people doing the best that they could. But, sometimes doing the best that you could is just not good enough.
Taking his point one step further, it would probably be a good idea to include the basic first aid measures as part of the general education process. CPR is taught in YMCAs and some public school programs. Why not teach "stop the bleeding"?
YMMV
