Effort to abolish local sheriffs a stealth federal power grab?
Effort to abolish local sheriffs a stealth federal power grab?
If true, this is an interesting development that would bring “federal” jurisdiction “closer to the people”
SnT
A news report has been quietly making its way around the alternative media, under the radar screen, concerning a Delaware legal decision to strip county sheriffs of their arrest powers in the state.
The mainstream media has not reported the story, but the son of Vice President Joe Biden, who serves as Attorney General for the state of Delaware, has issued a mandate to county commissioners informing them that sheriffs in the state's three counties no longer have arrest powers.

The more important question is, what would Chuck Norris do?

Nothing on the delaware.gov web-sites and I would think that would be a newsworthy press release they would want to get out first to control the story.
http://attorneygeneral.delaware.gov/

Probably a good reason the MSM isn't reporting it...it doesn't exist as such.

Looks like the bill mentioned in the OP existed but was tabled in March 2012.
One Delaware House of Representatives press release apparently discusses the withdrawal at link below.
Perhaps Chuck made a phone call.

Of all the law enforcement in this country, the sheriffs are the most powerful and influential. Pick on one and see what happens.

Ready-made fiefdoms.
Know the area, command an armed, trained, organized body of men; and they've already won a popularity contest.
There's some local lore about a sheriff in northwest Colorado sometime during the 90s (Moffat County, IIRC).
Had some problems with a large group of bikers passing through who didn't feel the need to respect the law.
Put out some calls for assistance to address the issue.
A few hundred ranchers showed up with rifles.
The bikers departed without incident.
A biker is a much easier target than a prairie dog.

Yah, OK then
With the exception of Louisiana (who knew) under our law, the county is the last line of State government. CITIES, like Chicago, are coporations. Just look at the flag . . . incorporated whenthefvckever. Counties, or if you are a old boy in Lousiana, your Parish, is the legal arm of the state gobmint. So good luck with the feds doing away with counties. My cash is on them. Another stupid idea from the good idea fairy.
