Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not. Nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not. Unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not. The world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence, determination and hard work make the difference. -- Calvin Coolidge

My own view of persistence is that it must be like the real rules to soccer, which are:

If it moves, kick it. If it doesn't move, kick it until it does move!

Another of my favorites, and one I try to keep in mind every day is:

Never argue with idiots. They just drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Peeking in here slowly, to add one of my all-time favorite pieces of advice:

"I have hung out in dangerous places a lot over the years, from combat zones to biker bars, and it is the weak, the unaware, or those looking for it, that usually find trouble.

Ain't no one getting out of this world alive. All you can do is try to have some choice in the way you go. Prepare yourself (and your affairs), and when your number is up, die on your feet fighting rather than on your knees. And make the SOBs pay dearly."

I read one here, just the other day. It says:

Ruckers make better F*ckers

Dang-it, I wish I knew that some time ago.....jd

Rudyard Kipling(The soldiers poet)

Two quotes from one of my favorite authors and poets:

When you're wounded and left on Afghanistan's plains, and the women come out to cut up what remains, jest roll to your rifle and blow out your brains and go to your gawd like a soldier.

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew to serve your turn long after they are gone, and so hold on when there is nothing in you except the will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

The two highest achievements of the human mind are the twin concepts of “loyalty” and “duty.” Whenever these twin concepts fall into disrepute--get out of there fast. You may possibly save yourself, but it is too late to save that society. It is doomed.

Robert Heinlein
