68W prior service ARNG heading to SFRE

Good evening everyone. I ETS'd from the Florida Army National Guard in January and have since started the process in securing my attendance at 20th SFG's SFRE weekend in September. I have already done a lot of reading on threads about prepping/training for SFAS and I must say that this site has a wealth of knowledge that I greatly appreciate. I recently graduated paramedic school, currently finishing my AS Degree in Emergency Medicine. I attended SFRE about 5 years ago, I didn't secure a slot for SFAS due to deficiencies on my part. I've had a deployment, life experience and school in the time that has past. I've learned a lot and grown as a person. Now I'm looking forward to giving my dream another shot and I'm excited to continue improving in my training. Also, if there's anyone on here in the Central Florida area, training for SFAS or already tabbed, I'd be really happy to meet up and train and/or exchange ideas. Just message me. I'll be reading far more than I'll be posting thanks in advance for all the knowledge and best of luck to the guys who share my aspirations.

Introduction

Gentlemen,

I'm heading to selection towards the end of this year. I come from a family where every male member has served, as well as my older brother and father having been Special Forces. I joined the Army as a Combat Documentation and Production Specialist but found the standards lacking and not fulfilling. I look forward to joining the ranks of the Quiet Professionals and claiming my warrior heritage.

I've been lurking around this website and a few others for the past year reading up on as much info as possible. I just ETS'd from the Air Force Reserves in January and for the last year and a half, I have been trying to cross over to Army AD (specifically either Intel or SF). It seems that a lot of the times, recruiters hear the words "prior service" and aren't very motivated to help. Well after 1.5 years and after talking to several recruiters, I finally found one that would help me out. Yesterday I had the privilege of going back through MEPS and I was able to secure an 18x slot. I've got a ship date to go to BCT in July.

This site has been an outstanding source of knowledge, whether it be on suggested PT or the mental state necessary to succeed, I have found at least one thread on it.

I look forward to taking in as much info as I can from y'all and will keep focusing on my first target at hand.

Hello there,

I am new to this site, but have been interested in the fighting men of the SOF since an early age. Recently I stopped college and joined the army, shipping out for BCT on June 6th as an 18X. I am always looking for a challenge and love to train. Before I swore in I was doing alot of weightlifting and eventually I just felt like I needed to validate my existence through something more aggressive and complete than just getting a college degree. I have been reading alot of training information on here and doing as much research as I can on SOPC and SFAS. I hope to be 110% prepared by the end of my SOPC course.

To those joining, welcome.

To those soon to attend SFAS, best of luck to you. Work hard, stay humble, and learn all you can.

Thank you for the opportunity

Good Evening,

I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello. Thank you for all the great information already posted. Thank you for the opportunity for the chance to be selected. I hope that the skills I have will be of use to the teams that I ultimately hope to join.

I am currently a specialist, 91B, at Fort Drum. I have been given a great opportunity to serve my country in a full time capacity. I spent the past 6 years as a reservist and enjoyed my time there learning and growing as a soldier. I was granted a conditional release, and am now here. After a briefing from the SF recruiter, I was all in. I want to continue learning and growing and will be ready to give it my all and then some when I get to SFAS and hopefully beyond if my skillset is what you're looking for.

Respectfully,

Ayebaby

Hello everybody. I am 24 with no prior service. I am here because the book Get Selected recommended it. I am simply here to learn. My 18X slot is reserved and I sign my contract in a week.

Thanks in advance.

Good afternoon everyone:

I found this site while looking doing research for the latest and greatest methods used by professional soldiers to carry their medical gear, pack their aid bags, etc. I have been in the California National Guard as a 68W since December 2008. I have been the senior line medic for a mechanized infantry company and now for a dismounted cavalry troop.

In my full-time job, I am a Law Enforcement Officer in southern California. I teach TCCC within my department. History is my biggest passion besides tactical medicine.

Anyways, I am not a member of the SF community and have no intention of being one (unless you count SWAT) so my contributions will be few if any. I came to this site to learn from the experiences of this nation's finest warriors in hopes that I can apply some of your hard earned knowledge and wisdom in my service and I appreciate all the great information I have obtained thus far.

Years ago while attending Shot Show I had a former marine that was LAPD SWAT tell me: "We can do anything Special Forces can do." I just wanted to ask him if he put on his Big Boy Pants all by himself that day or did someone help him?

Another, wiser, Special Forces soldier on here looked at me and said: "Leave it." And that was that.

Welcome aboard.

Hi chaps. I have been popping in to have a read of your forum for a few years now and need to ask a question in another section, but it is polite to introduce myself first.

Former British Army, 11 years and 4 years as a police officer - one of the British ones with a silly pointy hat. I don't do that anymore due to family commitments, but all my friends seem to either be military, or police.

I read the SWAT comment above and having been exposed to both groups I still snigger when I hear some [fat] police officers sharing the wealth of the operational experience.

Hello, I'm 23 and a welder from Ohio dealing with mainly aluminum air brake reservoirs. I took time off work to backpack the Appalachian Trail, which reinvigorated my dream to join the military.

I wanted to enlist at the age of 18, pursuing Airborne and possibly Rangers, after experiencing the army. At the time my recruiter assured me I would be ineligible considering I'm partially red / green colorblind. I was dissapointed and simply stopped researching and moved on.

I've always been fascinated with other cultures and languages. I'm now pursuing to enlist as an 18x. I've had LASIK and also my two extensor tendons to my index finger reconnected. Otherwise no major injuries. I am going to do my best to overcome the obstacles for an opportunity in the military.

Thanks for the forum and everyone's service. This site has been a wealth of information and great opportunity to read first hand opinions and perspectives.

NOTIME89 Re-Intro

Reintroducing myself under this current thread.

Age: 26
Schools: Ranger, Airborne, ARC, BOLC, 'a' Selection (currently serving)
A few deployments
My PSG's didnt beat me up....too much.

Purpose: determine if I can resign commission and eventually attend SFAS.

I'm extremely motivated to do this. Have thought about it for too long and am going to pursue this.

I have completed my initial enlistment contract, completed my responsibilities for my current unit, and have no legal, financial, or family issues preventing me from pursuing dream.

Will be seeking information on ADHD/Adderall usage (lots of medical documents to read through).

To capture my current mindset: grateful, lucky, excited, and determined. My reasons for making the switch are both personal and easily understood by those who have served.

I have been incredibly blessed and fortunate to have been mentored, led, trained, and developed over the past years. I am still young and have a ton to learn.

Willing to answer questions that posters might have about the 4-5 years prior to attending SFAS as an O.

Oh, that's just a big can of worms.... I can PM however I already know it's a question that has been and will be asked to me a lot.

I have fully considered it.

I loved my time as an O. But the two paths have their perks and I can't say I truly want to continue as an Officer. I love the aspects of teaching, coaching, learning, and working with a small team.

The topic has been covered pretty extensively (O vs. E), and I hope I'm not being dismissive of a very valid question and I appreciate you taking the time to ask. It's a huge jump and a lot of people are assuming I am running from something rather than to something as it appears to be a demotion.

Again, thank you for asking.

Good Afternoon,

First and foremost, I would like to thank you for your service and for the many sacrifices you and your families have made in protecting our country. Recent graduate of Loyola University here in Chicago and plan on enlisting as a rep-63 in the national Guard. I own a business with my family so my entrepreneurial endeavors are also one of my passions. The days keep rolling by and the desire to enlist just keeps getting greater so I'll be pulling the trigger any minute now. I haven't yet because its been worthwhile to keep on learning first by the great men on this site. I came across this site and can't thank the SF community enough for being so accessible and willing to help. I have registered so I could utilize the search function and will continue to learn.

Respectfully,
Santi
