Everything you need to know about the Venezuelan (& other) protests

Everything you need to know about the Venezuelan protests

http://theweek.com/article/index/259...uelan-protests

So we have Venezuelan imploding after Hugo Chávez died last year, Venezuela's economy and civil society in shambles. Yet looking around Latin America, seems from Venezuelan to Brazil they are all having the start of an irregular warfare from these protests.

This article also plays into what is going on down SOTB.

From a "Fortress Americas"/Monroe Doctrine 2.0 perspective I would think Venezuela is about a jillion times more important to US foreign and economic policy than Ukraine, but from mass media coverage it would appear to be the opposite.

Suprisingly zero mention of excessive Cuban influence/control over Venezuela's government and security apparatus.

I would think Cuban meddling in Venezuela would be worth at least a passing mention.

As a Western hemisphere issues, yes your Assumption is right IMO. I DONT SEE Cuba getting much more "involved" in the Venezuela's issues.

America TV media is like a newspaper, you got to sell papers. TV it's all about the ratings and commercials. But we, US, need to be on the look out of what is going on in Latin America. We have Cuba and Venezuela being the biggest socialist countries. We have Hezbollah, Quad Forces there, along with an increased number of AQ related elements. This issues we have have in Mexico is not all drug cartel IMO.

I, for one, look forward to the day 7th Group and other assets can focus exclusively on Latin America without the distraction of other current AOs and execute on some solid foreign policy.

There's not heaps in open source about the success SF have had in Latin America(which is a shame considering it's applicability to recent operating environments) in the 70's-90's with a handful of personnel and limited budget.

But what I've read leaves me hopeful that it can be replicated in the period ahead.

The considerable violence in Mexico, Venezuela, and Central America in recent years matched with some "interesting" populist leftists across South America leads me to believe there's a couple decades and a couple thousand man years worth of work to be done.
