Remembering 41
As I watch the funeral for President George H.W. Bush - I’m reminded that whether one agreed or disagreed with his policies, 41 was the last adult that the nation enjoyed as its leader...what immediately followed was essentially a string of relative juveniles in that role.

He had a long and distinguished run in life, the last POTUS to have served in WWII. He is getting a pretty good send off, may he forever Rest in Peace.

RIP President H.W. Bush.

I stopped by the Post Office today and found it closed. Then I saw the flag at half mast. Yeah, he gets the day. Not every CIC, but this one, yeah.

One of the last of the Greatest Generation.
Thank you for your service, and your sacrifice.
I did not always agree with your decisions, but you were a great Commander in Chief.
RIP, Sir!

Interesting bit of history: After his shoot-down, LTJG, GHW Bush was rescued from the Pacific waters after his plane was disabled on the attack on Chichi Ima Island. The other pilots shot down that day were cannibalized by the Japanese.
But 41 would not have even been there that day, let alone President of the U.S. or father of another President, if it hadn't been for another rescue at sea 325 years earlier. His great-grandfather, multiple generations past, John Howland, fell off the Mayflower in a storm. He was able to grab a line that was trailing the ship and was pulled back aboard.
I would not have been here either since he and I are 1st cousins multiple generations removed. I'm actually as distant from John Howland as Prescott Bush. My son matches 41.
