Reagan carried a gun after attempted assassination, author says

The more I hear about President Ronald Reagan the more I like him...... We sure need someone like him now. (I hear Zero carries a joint in case of a crisis......)

An 'incredible revelation': Reagan carried a gun after attempted assassination, author says

After the 1981 assassination attempt on his life, former President Ronald Reagan reportedly began carrying a gun almost everywhere he went, bestselling thriller author Brad Meltzer told MyFoxNY Monday.

Meltzer, who discovered the reported gun's existence for himself after speaking with a Secret Service employee at the agency’s museum, called it an “incredible revelation.”

Reagan reportedly carried the gun in his briefcase and would even take it on Air Force One, Meltzer said.

“I trust these [Secret Service] people around me, but if someone comes at me again, I want to be prepared,” Reagan reportedly said in explaining the action, according to Meltzer.

Meltzer said he immediately contacted former President George H.W. Bush, Reagan’s vice president, to confirm whether the story was true.

“Tell me more about that,” Bush replied, who apparently did not know about the gun, according to Meltzer.

I little detour...

I've wondered about "rouge friendlies" in these situations.

Doesn't the "package" having a weapon mean just one more variable out of control in a situation? In a SS situation I can't imagine not having enough guns being the issue, but more how well the situation is controlled.

A completely different example is if you draw your CCW in an active shooter situation, what's to stop another CCW or the police from mistaking you for the shooter, and blue on blue so to speak?

In Special Forces we have a saying for all these "What if" situations,

"Sometimes you're the bug and sometimes you're the windshield."

From a former SF commander: "Shit happens, things change and no one has all the answers"

My belief, don't sweat the small stuff.

Good for President Reagan. I can still remember watching all of that in the news. Wonder what he carried? Hinckley did all of that damage with an inexpensive .22 revolver.

If an assclown of someone charge to protect the President doesn't recognize the President, the assclown needs to be shot.

In my recent book, a Secret Service operator muses on why Hinkley thought a .22, being exactly half the calibre Booth used to blow a chunk out of Abe Lincoln's head, was enough to kill Reagan.

Sorry Joker, I was a bit vague there.

More, a rouge friendly in one's own group, with a weapon, not being with the plan. The SS choreographys all kinda of scenarios. Not sure I would want someone just firing off rounds, especially possibly without fire disapline wen under stress.

Regarding the CCW, that's was just a side question, I'd been thinking about for a while. Are there some systems in place you are taught to protect yourself as a CCW against other CCWs and police? I imagine CCWs getting shot by other friendly's mustn't be unusual?
