I'm pretty sure we are doing it Sunday as well.

So to report back on the Tough Mudder:

Definitely not the easy civilian event I thought it might be. The initial dip and then the culverts filled with water and hundreds of pounds of ice made for a nice wake-up within the first half mile of the event. After moving into the GA woods, the trail wound up and down the hills for miles. You would get to the top of a hill, see another group on the trail 10 feet over and think, "Oh, we are almost where they are." Nope. You'd drop back down at hit switch backs for another quarter mile before coming back up. Just hairpin after hairpin stretching the course as long as possible. Lots of mud made the day fun. I think I still have an orange tint.

The website and "Finisher Badge" they email you for posting to Facebook and such says that you can only get it by completing 7-12 miles of the hardest single day event on Earth. I'm not sure I'd go quite that far. I will say that the GA course was 14+ miles, not 7-12.

I finished in 3:52 after staying with some teammates for the last few miles. I think breaking 3:30 would have been fairly doable for my level of fitness.

A portion of proceeds go to Wounded Warrior, and I recommend it to anyone looking for a fun day of embracing the suck.

Virginia, Sat Oct 22 & Sun Oct 23, 2011

To anyone in the D.C. / Viriginia / Maryland area,

The Tough Mudder will be coming to Virginia this October 22nd and 23rd, a weekend. I'm going to go have some fun running the course, I was wondering if anyone in my area might want to attend with me.

I ask here because my current duty position at Walter Reed requires me to work in a small group of 3 people. As such I don't have many to go with save for maybe one very good friend. I think going to this event would be the most fun if there were more like-minded people on the team. I would be honored to have any volunteers. Please send me a PM or reply here if you would like to go with me.

Very Respectfully,
- Ben

Its most fun if you drink a couple beers before starting, and then carry a backpack full to partake of throughout the course. I will say that it didn't do much for my overall time though...

Appreciate it if you would review the rules of this board and comply before promoting your course.

GORUCK anyone?

I just completed a GORUCK challenge in San Francisco on the weekend of Nov. 19th (class 086). In my opinion, the challenge was more difficult than I expected it to be. The combination of steady rain, cold weather, heavy packs, and fast pace rucking put my body through the ringer. Besides the obvious physical demands of the challenge, I felt that it put my mind to the test as well – especially in the last two hours with all my energy spent. Jason (GORUCK founder) reminded all of us before we started out on our journey that crossfit/gym jones/whatever would only take us so far, our minds would have to take us the rest of the way. He was right.

Anyone else completed a GORUCK?

I did GoRuck in Tampa last month - easily the hardest thing I've done since Ive been out of the Rangers/Military.

Ive done tough mudder, warrior dash, etc. And they don't compare - they are nothing but fun runs with some obstacles that you can do drunk.

GoRuck was a gut check - 26 miles, with 40-50 pound rucks, an additional 40 pounds of stones to carry for miles on end. Log carries. Surf PT.

Problem is too many shit bags show up who cant perform, and you end up literally carrying them and their packs. In real life they would just be dropped or they would quit.

Brian, who is the lead training cadre for GoRuck said it was a "bad day in SFAS"

Priceless

Impeccable choice of attire. The picture of you running behind everyone in their track gear is great. Props for a good sense of surrealist irony!
