TARFU of a situation - the bad guys know we're leaving and are starting to make their lists of who to purge once we're gone and now even the good guys are trying to avoid the inevitable by showing the bad guys how 'fundi' they can be to try and keep their heads and their families - what a goat fornication of a situation.

The enemy has executed a brilliant Economy of Force operation.

This year....for the expenditure of about a platoon's worth of martyrs, they have eliminated less than a company's worth of friendlies (KIA/WIA)...and decisively peeled us away from our Afghan allies.

They have also shaken domestic political support for the war...thus hastening early departure.

Strategic goals accomplished for little actual cost to our opponents.

Factor if trying to make an Army overnight.. NATO/US didn't really start dumping money, training, equipment into ANA,ANP ETC till 2010. That's the year we ramped up recruitment and training. NATO/US wanted bodies and show that ANA/ANP had the numbers to control areas.

Back in 2007 that Taliban were putting people into the ANA before they could join the Taliban. They statement was that anyone that joined the ANA then deserted with their weapons and if they but extra items such as NVGs, machine guns, ETC So TB has had a steak in the ANA for years we all know that. I feel that their tactics, their game plan has changed this year. Someone in Pakistan leadership has realize that one suicide bomber blowing himself doesn't get the news coverage as one Talib killing that one NATO or more specifically US service number.

Gen McChrystal and Gen Petraeus were the first U.S. Generals to ever, in a Command position, state publicly that the Taliban hashas a shadow government working against the efforts of NATO and GIRoA.

Like most things we (NATO/ISAF) say one thing and do another. Remember ISAF is ISee Americans Fight.. Nothing new.

...and sadly, this lesson won't be learned at the highest levels of the Military and Government.

SL, if you were referring to Post #11, what he is saying is that the politicians will make promises and take a stand on issues that they will not suffer the consequences of!! It will be the Citizens/Military out at the Pointy End of the Spear that will suffer from the politician's ignorance and total lack of situational awareness with regard to any confrontation or other situation both CONUS and OCONUS!!

Sir,

it now makes sense, I appreciate your clarification. Needless to say that I concur with QP MR2's point.
