JJ_BPK,

There was a special on the History Channel or Military Channel on Tarawa and the current clean up mission of one of the veterans. Included in the trash clean up was information on several of the old burial locations and the efforts to retrieve our fallen and bring them home. The special was back in Jul 10.

Bump

This was my attempt to not let our fallen brothers fall into the modern day "name collection pool" of databases. Recently learned you can now get bracelets for missing or lost dogs and cats.

There are aprox. 4500 QPs on active duty, another several thousand retired and got out tramps like me.

Glad to see the names worn and their stories remembered.

Thanks everyone.

Talk about putting a "face" on the fallen.

This post actually got me all choked up. I'm not sure what to say other than "You have a lot to be proud of". Much respect to you Tatonka, and I'm sorry for your loss.

As a teenager I got this one... it has since been broken:

SSG Madison A Strohlein, USA SF, Lost 1971.

I just went back to recheck on the status... there was a new page I never saw before, his Team Daddy was Billy Waugh... this was new information for me. A small world gets smaller, and the threads running through it tighten over time...

The broken halves of the original bracelet were brought to the D-FW National Cemetary since I was in College at the time... TCU, MAJ Howard had just finished his Master's the year before when I was a Freshman...

About 20 years ago while I had a slow night at work, I remember reading a story about SSG Strohlein on his work on HALO and his work in Vietnam. I was amazed then and still am now. I have never forgotten his name and how he was a truly remarkable soldier.
