Don't disagree with you at all, Guy.
What I am suggesting is that safety is a personal responsibility and for that certain skills are required. I have tried to teach my kids to "be prepared". Such things like situational awareness, e.g., in a crowd always know your exit plan (PACE). Know the difference between cover and concealment. Know the basics of first aid (stop the bleeding, maintain an airway).
None of that prepares them for the trauma of a mass casualty situation, but it may just give them a framework for thinking, developing a plan, and focusing instead of panic. That may just give them a critical advantage should they ever, God-forbid, be in a Las Vegas like situation.
If these skills were a part of primary/secondary education and repeated often it could make a difference. Much better than sole reliance on first responders for our safety. Same reasoning applies to conceal carry.
IMO, these life skills fall into the same category as knowing how to change a flat tire.
YMMV

There is no telling how many lives could be saved if more people actually knew how to do basic lifesaving techniques. Once practiced enough, hopefully some of them would subconsciously take action when necessary rather than panic and go into shutdown mode. Confidence in one's ability breeds action versus panic and non-action. That's a good point, TJ!

While this asshat will never know, but maybe he's done more good than harm. Whatever his hate filled rage was, and whatever unknown at this time or suspected affiliations might exist with anti-Trump or anti-America hate groups...one thing is foreseeable; the majority of right-minded people will not tolerate the Leftists attempts to derail or overthrow the Constitutional Republic.
This horrific tragedy may unite us against the division that very likely drove this person to commit such an unprecedented and unspeakable act.
At least one can hope.
For those that can't hope maybe he will have driven a spike through the Leftist/Socialist ideology that has poisoned our biased democracy. Time and a thorough investigation will cast light on his motivations and while altruism and ideology may have been factors behind it, his actions will not have the effect he was probably looking for.
A civil war is brewing and this is but another set of nails in the coffin. Let the revolution begin...I'm confident of the winners.

More than one shooting position on multiple floors?
This is one thing that has been weird, but has received zero mention in any media. There are various sources of amateur footage showing another firing point at about the 9th or 10th floor, near the middle of the Mandalay Bay hotel building. If you look at the video in this link https://youtu.be/435CC8cFIEM you can see this as recorded by a taxi driver. Go to about 4:57 min/sec in the video.
I compared his position using Google Earth "Street View" - which gives you access to see the entrance and exit of the Mandalay Bay one would drive it - and was able to identify the position based on the muzzle flash and the noise. It was NOT anywhere near the 32nd floor corner. It was more like on the 9th or 10th almost at the center of the building. There is another video floating around - shot by someone else - that verifies this from another vantage point. My question is, why has this been completely ignored? It's just very strange.
Did this guy begin in one hotel room and then move to another? Or, were there multiple shooters?

I don't think that was a muzzle flash. There was a break in the sound of the gun firing, presumably when that POS was reloading yet the light kept flickering. Considering the amount of light pollution in Vegas I'd guess that's what your seeing and not a second shooter. If there was a second shooter there would have been a third shot out window for the world to see and when they showed the hotel the morning after only the two windows on the 32nd floor were shot out.

I keep hearing and reading endless comments about the amount of ammo this guy had and where he kept all of that devilish fuel for all of those evil black guns.
A basic load is 210 rounds and it fits in a couple of ammo pouches. The sandwich I take to work for lunch takes up nearly as much space as a basic load. A couple of 100 round surefire magazines dont take up much more space than a large print Gideons bible. He could have carried 500 rounds up to the desk in his shaving kit when he checked in and no one would be the wiser.
The same goes for the rifles, an old guy with a nice travel case for his golf clubs could have had the doorman tote a few guns to his room for him and the only thing on video would have been a doorman doing his job. Leave to play a few holes of golf and return later with another few guns in the case and nothing on video would have looked out of place.
This turd was a failed human being living a wasted life with plenty of time to do his task. There is far more going on than meets the eye and the continued hokum on "where he could have kept ALL of this stuff is just a distraction.
The only real questions here are 'why' and for 'who' - everything else is just kabuki theater.
This was a guy who according to his lifestyle, had no training that would have produced this result and yet, the execution seems to have been well done. Well stocked, well-placed fighting position, video equipment to help monitor his security, and lord only knows what else he had planned. Yet all anyone is worried about is how he snuck all of that ammo past a desk clerk that is probably making less than 20 bucks an hour............
Its just too bad his death did not last measurably longer than it seems to have lasted. He certinly didnt deserve a quick ending.

Very well said.
I am no expert but It seems this sicko managed to be in perfect firing position, armed to the teeth, with all the pre-meditation in the world, yet this seems to be lost on the media.

My question was a bit facetious.
I'm sure calls for greater surveillance and security will be forthcoming.

and I have done the same with three foot lockers, full of guns - M4s, M4s w/203s, MP5s, pistols, etc. Never asked except at the airport and then flashed an Id card and be on the way...

Same here.
Flew out of Raleigh as a team and checked in 10 pelican weapons cases full of weapons and NVGs, opened up for the entire airport to see, a few months after 9/11. For about 10 seconds people were like “WTF!” until they realized we were military; I assume they felt like they were on the safest flight on Earth after that.
Same at hotels. Anyone seeing us arrive or leave would think we were a 10 member band without drums or guys hauling weapons cases.
It’s not unusual. I’d be willing to bet that he could have walked into the hotel with each rifle in a rifle cover drag bag and no one would have said anything.

Ok so I know this is going to really feed the fodder to the Tin Hat wearers.
There is no way to know if these are facts.. everything is speculation.. except for the fact that I saw on CNN where they mentioned it took the shooter 9-11 mins to shoot off his rounds.
My friend brought it to my attention that the shooting took place on
Rte 91 fest on October 01
that’s 91101 ➡️ 9/11 2001

I believe that video is the same I watched the other evening that was taken by a Uber driver. It was up on ZeroHedge several responses alleged that the authorities believed the flashes seen in the video were reflections strobe lights from the concert or from some where in the area.

There's no broken window at the suggested alternate firing position.

It has united the liberals into proclaiming this is the fault of Republicans/Conservatives/Gun Owners for not allowing a ban after Sandy Hook. Anything else and you are part of the problem.
I've got $20 dollars that this guy is a Limousine Liberal Activist that decided to act out against people he thinks are Trump supporters.
