War Medals Stolen From Patriots Point Museum

Charleston County - SEVEN MEDALS OF HONOR HAVE BEEN STOLEN FROM THE CONGRESSIONAL MEDAL OF HONOR MUSUEM AT PATRIOTS POINT.

POLICE SAY THEY WERE TAKEN SOMETIME BETWEEN SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY MORNING.

THE MUSEUM HAS LOCKED UP IT'S REMAINING MEDALS OF HONOR UNTIL SECURITY IS STEPPED UP. BUYING, SELLING, OR TRADING THE MEDALS IS A FEDERAL OFFENSE. OFFICIALS HOPE THEY WILL BE RETURNED.

THE STOLEN MEDALS WERE FROM THE CIVIL WAR, BOTH WORLD WARS, THE NICARAGUAN CAMPAIGN, THE INDIAN WARS, AND VIETNAM. ONE BELONGED TO DONALD TRUESDELL, A SOUTH CAROLINIAN.

THE MEDAL OF HONOR IS THE HIGHEST MILITARY AWARD AND IS OFTEN HANDED OUT BY THE PRESIDENT. ONLY FOUR THOUSAND HAVE EVER BEEN PRESENTED. THEY WERE FIRST CREATED DURING THE CIVIL WAR.
