The Teammate

Describe your perfect Teammate. Attributes.

So Smitty was a good teammate all of this time?

All of what you said, plus, RELIABLE (can be counted on to do what he should be doing, whether he is being watched or not)!

Never been on a Team, RL?

We had a poem that loses some of its translation from German to English . If you'll indulge me:

Wenn Einer von uns müde wird, der Andere für ihn wacht
"When one of us is tired, the other takes his watch"

Wenn Einer von uns zweifeln will, der Andere glaübig lacht
"When one of us has fear, the other laughs for both"

Wenn Einer von uns fallen sollt, der Andere steht für zwei
"When one of us should fall, the other stands for two"

Denn jedem Kämpfer gibt ein Gott den Kameraden bei.
"For God gives every warrior a comrade"

This emblazoned our coffee cups, team rooms, and other paraphenalia. It was something we all took to heart and lived by.

I like your poem! Translates nicely.

Gentlemen,

There are many things I look for in a Perfect Team Member. I give these examples from the view of a Team Warrant. Some things a guy can be taught and some they cannot. Two of the inherent characteristics that I really like to see is:
1) Heart: The guy that will do his absolute best no matter what it takes or what obstacles he encounters. The guy that will not quit because he does not want to let his Team down. He may not be really good at something but he will work to be better in order to meet the expectations of the Team and his fellow ODA members
2) The ability to think on his feet. This is the guy that you can send out to do something and he will make it happen. I refer to this as “fire and forget”. You give the guy a mission, his left and right limits and he will make it happen. Period. Even if it has never been done before the guy will find a way. I guess you would say the ability to solve problems.

There are several others but I consider the above very important.

Just my $.02 worth.

Those attributes descibed above are on point. But for guys like me, its important to put a name to those attributes.

I have had the honor and privilege to serve with some of the finest Officers and NCOs that ever walked the face of the earth. I wanna name them here.

Bob Howard- MOH
Roy Benevides-MOH-RIP
Doug Miller-MOH-RIP
Joe Walker
John Plaster
Chuck Clayton
David B. Hayes-RIP
John Yancey-RIP
Galen Musselman
Mike Vermillion
Bob Camors, Jr
Kramer D. Regan
Stanley Dodson
Jim sweeney
Bill Miller

And countless others!!!!!!!

Many others I knew, but didn't have the opportunuty to serve with.

Point is, we as SF Soldiers, were/are so fortunate to be who we are.

Y'all need to "put a name to those attributes."

Later.

Like, RL, many a team, but never a Team. But in addition to NDD's list, I'd add always being there when you need him. You can be smart, strong, fast, proficient... but if I need you, turn around, and you aren't there? No go.

Of course, he better be able to expect the same of you.
