Question B-10 Recoiless Rifle

Gentlemen,

My unit is leaving for OEF in a few weeks, and reports we have received about our area indicate new TTP's involving old Soviet B-10 recoiless rifles. My Commander saw the phrase indirect-fire in the report and automatically tasked me with finding out as much as I can about the system, and briefing the rest of the Company on it. Between Jane's and Opfor equipment guides, I've already been able to knock out all the technical data on the system and ammunition. I don't know much about how its being used though, except what I've been able to piece together from my guys that have already deployed there. I deal with mortars, so I'm not very impressed with it's indirect capabilities as a threat. The HEAT rounds however, do seem to pose a problem for the MRAP-type vehicles we'll be falling in on. I'm asking if anyone has had any experience with these systems, either on the sending or receiving end, that would not violate OPSEC, that they could share. Any advice that could be posted or PM'd to me would be much appreciated.

Back blast also gives concealmet for the withdrawl. With ROE you can't fire blindly into an area with non combatants unless you can ID your target.

geardo, I recommend that you go see your Group Lessons Learned guys and ask them to help.

They are in your Group S3 shop.

If they can't/won't, drop me a PM.

Thank You

First off, thanks for the quick responses. S2 initially gave us the reports, so hopefully they'll be able to produce some more gouge before we fly. The big issue we're running into is the fact that we're not RIP'ing with a unit. The only US forces in the area are QP's, who may or may not still be there. I never thought to look for videos on the subject, but the ones you linked have already helped immensely. I didn't realize you could shoulder fire one effectively, and the blast does seem to provide a good screen. I will check with my S3, and see if anyone else has CALL access. Again thank you.

Just to reiterate, you do not need to contact CALL, there are two guys at Group HQs to do that for you.

All of the AD Groups are authorized a DA civilian and a contractor to work Lessons Learned. 3rd and 7th are currently missing their DACs due to the hiring freeze.

They are there to help you with your information requirements and reporting. Your guys are Dan F. and Bob H.

Hope that helps.
