Florence, Italy

This is one of my favorite cites in Europe.

A haven for art, history and architecture lovers, Florence welcomes visitors to savor la dolce vita!

Florence

Galleria dell'Accademia

Duomo

Galleria degli Uffizi

This city has so much to do and see. Make sure you get a "beef-steak Florentine style", it’s about 5 inches thick and tastes wonderful!! Plus all the wine is great as well!

My last trip there as a tourist, we had a lot of our group (Off a Cruise Ship) taken by pickpockets. One, was within a Catholic church we visited. Yes, otherwise the city was beautiful. We were warned on shipboard as well as the tour leader about the Pickpockets. I didn't get to eat there; however, had lots of good food in Rome and especially Venice. I spent (4) days in Venice and had a great time and lots of good meals.

Paris also has a pickpocket problem, especially in the subways and Pigalle. They blame the gypsies... but I have my doubts about that.

Italy was a great place to be stationed! I loved Florence, but I was more into Rome...so much to do and see! Too crowded in the summertime, I found it was best in the winter. Less tourists. I know this is an old thread, but if you are into the museum scene, check out the Borghese Gallery in Rome. It's a bit out of the way, but easy walking distance from the Roma Termini, and well worth the detour.

I'll have to second the Florentine Steak - incredible! A bit pricey, though!

The pickpockets on the metro were horrible...my mother came to visit once and we took her to Rome for a 4-day weekend As we were getting on the metro, a kid of no more than 8 years old tried to pick her pocket. I saw the little bastard and gave him a little kick and he ran off. And, of course, they blame everything on the gypsies!

Back to lurking...

We were in Europe about three weeks ago, 3 days London, attended the National Theater (WARHORSE), National Gallery, then flew to Florence where we had tickets waiting for us to the Uffizzi, flew to Vienna where we had tickets to the State Opera, then on to Paris where we had the pass to all the places of interest, stayed in the Latin Quarter, walked to the D'Orsay, The Louvre, St Chapel. Overall a rushed trip, but fun.

I also like Steak Florentine.
