Holy long range insertion, Batman

Sling a couple of Mavericks on this thing, and you'd be GTG.

Wile E Coyote

Dang!!

Anyone remember the roadrunner cartoon where Wile E Coyote had one of these things? No kidding, that is the first thing that came to mind when I saw the photo.

I think this was posted a few months ago. Still interesting. I wouldn't want to cache that damn wing.

"Weapons, ammunition, food, and water stow inside the wing....." I am just picturing this as you try to load your gear ... if one side is heavier than the other (picture dislodged sheetmetal roof in hurricane) I wonder what the stability is. But then again we all have perfectly symmetric weight in our rucksacks...

You mean the pre-op inspection didn't include ruck balancing as part of the briefback, and JMPI? the Horror!!

Hey, Chuck, whaddya think - the 60 ammo, batteries and chow on the right and the snivel gear on the left gonna work ok?

Jumpmaster must now calculate for spin drift.....egads!

F = 1/2 p V2 A Cl

F = lift force
ρ = density of the fluid
V = velocity of the ball
A = crossectional area of ball
Cl = lift coefficient

The lift coefficient is very dependent on the spin ratio ( (angular velocity*diameter)/(2* linear velocity) of the ball. Lift coefficient may be determined from graphs of experimental data using Reynolds number and spin ratio. Typical lift coefficients of a smooth ball range from 0.2 to 0.6 for spin ratios ranging from 0.5 to 4.5.

Then strap that on 12 guys and set them loose

Load problems, yes. But think of the size flask you could now carry!

This one is going back a little while but it was meant for downed aircrew and SF.

Use to see it fly around the neighborhood everyonce in a while.

Bump with new link

I thought I'd give this old thread a bump with a new story link before anybody starts a new one with "Hey, Look what I found."

Whoops wrong link, I'll be back with the right one.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,352477,00.html

Ah, better.

The video was pretty good. I think the guys jumping off the ramp had done it a time or three before. They looked like they were having too much fun.
