Louie used to watch my wife run track and cheer her (and all the runners) on when she was in high school in Sacramento. He was a source of advice and inspiration. She was understandably devastated when he passed.

Just finished: Among Enemies: Counter-Espionage for the Business Traveler by Luke Bencie. If you travel for business, this is a must read for staying secure and protecting proprietary information. It's a small book that a voracious reader can finish in a day.
Currently reading: Gideon's Spies: The Secret History of the Mossad by Gordon Thomas.

Damn Few; Fearless
I just recently finished reading two books regarding a couple SEALs. From the recent PR obviously not the QP's I have been lurking around but still pretty good stuff.
The first one was from Denver Rorke, one of the SEALs that helped make the film Act Of Valor. Very insightful. Really focused on BUD/S but also a lot on his tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. Very interesting read. Facts, facts, facts and more about the aspects of what the SEALs are and what they do.
The second I thought was incredibly powerful. Fearless by Eric Blehm, who also wrote The Only Thing Worth Dying For regarding the Green Berets that were the first boots on the ground after 9/11. He is a great author and I cant wait to get my hands on this book.
Fearless was one of the most powerful books I have ever read. Really incredible stuff about Adam Brown the SEAL team SIX operator and his journey through drug abuse and his path to the top tier teams in the navy.
It is amazing how strong his faith in God was and how that was one of the main reasons he was able to do what he did in his mind. He gave Adam the strength to overcome his addiction to crack cocaine and heroin and the SEALs gave him a goal to overcome all of that. It shows the power the mind has on the body and how you can overcome anything with the will and determination to do so.
The story talks about his injuries (including being half blind in his dominant eye; having his dominant fingers being crushed and sown back on) and how he was able to overcome those and make it through Green Team screening into DEVGRU. Spoliler, he made up for these injuries by switching from a right handed shooter to a left and was able to become part of SEAL team SIX.
Sorry to go on so much but this book is really powerful and it made me think long and hard about how much your will power can make define you.

Reading 13 hours now.
Also Agent Storm, the story of Danish punk turned jihadi turned double/triple agent
Also not book, but movies: Most Wanted Man (John le Carré delivers as usual) and the Green Prince (documentary of how Hamas leader's son became a source for Shin Bet...), a surprisingly heartfelt story.
Highly recommended these for those interested in the intricacies of HUMINT operation, handler-source dynamic, etc.

Was gifted this book in appreciation for working the elections.
Started The Creature from Jekyll Island: A Second Look at the Federal Reserve - G. Edward Griffin (2010) 5E. This one will take a lot of time and tears to digest.

Tsukamoto, Mary and Elizabeth Pinkerton; "We The People: A Story Of Internment In America"; Laguna Publishers; Elk Grove, CA; 1987.
This book tells of the famiies of many of the friends I grew up with, Japanese-American citizens named Tsukamoto, Sakaoka, Abe, Ito, Umeda, Mukai, etc who were forcibly interred from 1942-1945 under Executive Order 9066.
It wasn't talked about when we were growing up together in the 1950's-1960's.

Hawk Quest
Finished reading Hawk Quest by Robert Lyndon a couple weeks ago, and I can't stop thinking about that book. This book has a bit of everything, Francs, Normans, Germans, Vikings, Russians, Saracens, Monghols, peasants, knights, hotties, a big ass dog, and of course hawks.
The story in a nutshell is this....A Frankish mercenary, Vallon, finds a dying Italian envoy and his page in the Alps. The page convinces Vallon to escort him to England to deliver a ransom note from the Saracen Emir to release a Knight held captive in Anatolia. The ransom requires 4 white gyrfalcons in return for the knight's release. A collection of characters join the quest for a variety of reasons, and the company (suddenly outlaws) must travel to Iceland, grab some hawks, then voyage through Scandinavia and Russia to eventually return to Turkey. They travel by horse, foot, and ship and encounter countless bands of brigands.
Lots of swordplay, lots of intrigue, lots of bows and arrows, plenty of blood and booze, and an all around great story. Highly recommended.

"The Originals" by Doris Baker. Good read, great insight to the dynamics of the early SF years with 10th Gp in Bad Tölz. Knowledge displayed of the surrounding region brings back memories.

Also just finished reading "13 Hours". I thought the book was excellent. Yes, the political "controversy" wasn't a part of that book. It was meant to tell the story of what happened during those 13 hours from the point of view of those who were there.
Although "the video" explanation was mentioned - several times. From the description of the apparent surveillance and reconnaissance "picture taking" that had been done shortly after the morning "call to prayers" on 9/11/11, the initial attack on the diplomatic mission and the later counter-attack at the mission to the three separate attacks on the annex, it appeared quite clear to this reader that this was a planned and co-ordinated attack - particularly the last 3 mortar strikes on Bldg. C at the annex, that killed Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty, and severely injured "Oz". I think the book did what it set out to do.
