Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood names presidency candidate

Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood names presidency candidate

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-17575705

"The Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt has nominated its deputy chairman, Khairat al-Shatir, as its candidate for the presidential elections in May.

The choice of Mr Shatir, the group's financier, reverses a pledge made earlier by the group's leaders not to contest the election.

It will raise concerns among liberals and the military that the Brotherhood could become too powerful..................."

I think the MB was thinking it was getting boxed into a corner and had to make this move. While maybe a good short term move for them.........

........it may be a bad long term move for the country. The economy is still in the tank and if the MB candidate wins the MB will "own" what ever happens next.

In bad times it's easy to turn the population against the cause - which would be easy to blame on the internal Jews and Christians first - followed by Israel.

Egypt's problem then becomes - it is on Israel's border. Fire the crowds up and they will not be content to wave flags and signs at the border.
