The Quebec City mosque shooting will be described as Trump-inspired terrorism. Bet on it.

Vetting of refugees from the seven listed countries is not what most people think. All they hear is that the process can take up to two years, so it must be the most thorough process on the planet. Not so much.

The only "database" we can check is the one we created while in Iraq. It consists of the bad guys we rolled up. This is would be our gold standard if we had captured every freaking terrorist in the country. The IED holes in my Humvee would indicate we did not.

Anyone checked against the list who is not found there gets a designation of "no derog", meaning no derogatory inforamtion found. It doesn't matter if that check takes six months or six years. It doesn't matter if the person is a serial beheader or goat buggerer, if they aren't on that list they get "no derog".

We don't have such a list for any of the other countries on the travel ban, really an operational pause. The governments in those countries, such as they exist, either cannot or will not provide much assistance in running names. There is no Aleppo White Pages to even confirm an address.

Most of that two years is spent waiting for answers that will never come. After the ban is lifted and "extreme vetting" goes into effect, I can't see what will change in that regard.

I agree with #1-3.

My concern is with #4.

If it is domestic only US policy, you are absolutely right to shut out foreign influence(especially lobbying) and opinions.

But if it's international policy, particularly international trade policy, surely the reasonable thoughts and opinions of aligned countries is worthy of consideration?

Particularly when it comes to genuine fair trade, which is very much a two way street.

My list was in the context of immigration and terrorism, not trade.

Sweet as!

I also do not think it's appropriate for one country drowning in refugees to lobby another to do the same.

Grilling on immigration.
I guess people like to watch CNN, MSNBC, FOX, and so on more than C-Span.
That was crystal clear why the ban protects Americans, conservatives and liberals alike.
