SGM(R) Joseph Murray

I just got word about the passing of another Son Tay Raider.

SGM(R) Joseph Murray’s viewing and funeral will be at:

Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.
545 Ramsey Street.
Fayetteville, NC 28301.
Phone: (910) 483-1331

Viewing: 2 January 2018 (Tuesday) from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.

Funeral: 3 January 2018 (Wednesday) at 12:30pm at the Chapel of the Funeral Home and his burial will be at the Sandhills NC Veterans Cemetery at 2:00pm.

He was my first SGM. And all others fell short in comparison, some just a little some a lot.

I graduated the Q-course as an E2 and signed in to A-1/7. Reported to the SGM and it was going well. After about 20-minutes he said, "take those danged mosquito wings off. I'd rather have you out of uniform than see those in my formation."

He the took me to the barracks, my room was an empty 4-man, with 4 wall lockers and 2 bunks, and said, "This is your house‎. I don't care if you paint it black and put glow in the dark stars up...Let's go and see some of your neighbors."

We went next door and they opened the door and I was sure the crap was going to hit the fan‎ as the floor was covered in dirty clothes, pizza boxes, equipment, and empty beer cans/bottles. Nope, not one word as we sat there and drank a couple of beers.

That was my first day. The others are very equally fond.

Rest in deserved Peace Sergeant ‎Major.
