The 7.62x25 Tokerav (aka FF's 1911 upgrade for cross thread points) does a really good job penetrating stuff.
Though I think that's about it for commonish handgun rounds, exception being LeMas, which I've yet to figure out how to acquire.
Frank Hamer learned how effective the .45 from a Thompson on a car was when he went after Bonnie and Clyde. He switched to .30-06 and .35 Remington.
