Army adopts G code Serpas as new holster

Not a fan, but better than the BS nylon holster still being issued I guess.
Trigger finger manipulation of the restraint device at times leads some novice shooters to insert said finger into the trigger guard upon weapon draw - not a good practice,

Quote:
The U.S. Army recently awarded contracts worth more than $73 million to equip soldiers with the G-Code XST and Blackhawk SERPA holsters for its Improved Modular Tactial Holster program.
On Dec. 18, the Army awarded a $49 million contract to Military Hardware, LLC for G-Code holsters and $24.3 million contract to ADS Inc. for Serpa holsters.
The SERPA line has seen mixed reviews over the years. The Marine Corps held a similar effort two years ago and adopted the Blackhawk SERPA.
But the SERPA’s retention mechanism is prone to become clogged with dirt, increasing the chances for a malfunction, sources say.

You can lock up the Serpas fairly easily so that the weapon is stuck, and it also, as noted, lends itself to negligent discharges due to its release mechanism.

What could go wrong here?

The G-Codes are not bad.

Not a fan of the SERPA for previously mentioned reason, however am a fan of the Gcode RTI ability to swap holsters / other accessories easily. I run a GCODE RTI XST holster which I like and can easily transfer from belt to war belt to kit if I so desire. The added over the top retention is a another selling point for me.

Having it easily attach to the RTI wheel makes it convenient when I switch holsters depending on what pistol I am running (G19, M9, 1911). You can purchase the hangars for the RTI to attach to blade-tech holsters or other holsters as well.

Word of warning: I have had both a RTI paddle, and belt slide break from just walking around camp. The duty mount slide is on my war belt and has been abused and is still standing, along with the RTI Molle attachment. Not a perfect system, but still works well for me.

I have seen a few bladetech / g codes with what can only be described as 'peach fuzz' and is listed as 'tactical fuzz' on their websites. Wonder if this fuzzy coating prevents the loud noise when kydex smacks a wall, or if its only function is to keep your secondary a bit warmer on brisk days

The tactical fuzz helps but quiet honestly if you brush up against something your holster isn't going to give you away as chances are better something metal on your kit or on your weapon will make a louder noise than the material the G code holsters are made out of. I have zero complaints with G code holsters, they are as good if not better than the safari land holsters and are half the price. The Serpa on the other hand is a steaming pile of craptastical kit. There are pages of explanations on the interwebs why so I will forego repeating it here.
