Remembering Opn MARKET-GARDEN

Re-arranging a couple of shelves yesterday, and coincidentally happened to lay hand on my signed copy of Don Burgett's "The Road to Arnhem" - got to meet him before he passed.

Regardless of how history has treated it in the end, a big Salute to those who may still be with us, and those who had to leave early.

LOVE the photo...

Cigarette dangling out of mouth, holding the reserve, chin straps undone, random gear just tied onto your body.

Thanks for the post Badger.

Thanks for the post Badger.
I can't be the only one thinking how much I would have preferred jumping back then with that IDGAF mentality.

Not sure I could JMPI that group properly but would have been interesting

When did we start jumping mortars? I never thought about that but I can't remember a WW2 pic with that equipment.

60mm Mortar Squad Pre D Day

One of the mortar squads in the 505th PIR prior to D Day.

You can see the squad equipment bundles to the left of the squad in the rear.
