That's like "Honest Lawyer"

Yes, Mini Smatchet
Looks like we may have an honest lawyer. Yes, that is a Mini Smatchet, Col. Rex Applegate approved. He had me make the prototype so he could see what it looked like. This was for finer work, like making wide entry hole with a knife that carried without much notice, Boker Knives in Germany has the rights to produce that just as Col. Rex Applegate agreed to.

Yes Smatchets are BIG! The one pictured here from WW Two is a single sided edge, the ones I prototyped for Applegate are all full double edged with the exception of two prototypes where I put very agressive wood cutting saw teeth on a section of one side.

Those look like the Al Mar produced Smatchets. I prototyped those for Col. Applegate.

In the picture above of the Al Mar Smatchets, it appears that there is a cord running through a hole in the ricasso just behind the top plunge line. I didn't see a reference to this hole or cord in "Get Tough". Do you know its purpose, Mr. Harsey?

Razor, Very good seeing on your part. I know the purpose of the hole that the cord runs thru and the cord doesn't belong in it. Col. Applegate directed me to always place a hole on one side of the smatchet ricasso. This was so the user could , if they choose, keep one side as sharp as possible and use the other edge for rough work that may damage the edge. The hole was there for them to use as a marker. There is no more to it than that. We never intended for a cord to be run thru it. (edited for spelling, a lot easier here than on a knife blade...)

I can't really see if those have the thong hole in the handle. There are instructions in Get Tough! about how to loop the thong so you don't lose your SMATCHET! while chopping.
I can see no useful purpose in running that cord through the indicator hole in the blade. The ones that did that are obviously Novatos!
