There has always been a bit of controversy around the US abandoning the gold standard based economy in the eaerly 70's.
Opinions being what they are - one thing gold did was kept the value of the dollar AWAY from politicians that could just "print more" when they needed to buy votes...

Maybe instead of a gold standard, we transition to a commodity standard. Instead of gold and silver maybe the dollar needs to be backed by toilet paper and hand sanitizer.
Something tangible to provide consumer trust i the American dollar. Charmin futures are tangible assets. Americans want something they can put faith in - when you wake up in the morning and "Mr. Coffee" has already started brewing your morning joe - you walk into the kitchen confident that your day is about to start off on a good foot.

When you have a plate full of bacon and eggs - you have something familiar; you have a known quantity that produces an expected result - a belly full of bacon and eggs will carry you through the day.

When politicians can just "print money" it creates uncertainty - it changes the value of our money - it puts control of our wealth in the hands of people that have proven beyond any doubt that they WILL abuse the public trust. We have become accustomed to letting politicians treat OUR money the way our kids treat monopoly money...

TP is real. It's tangible - when you have a 9-Pack of Quilted Northern in the back of your closet, you can hit the can with confidence. You dont sit on the can worried that you might have to spend your Saturday morning jumping from store to store looking for something that wont stop up the plumbing - you don't sit down at a huge meal worried that this huge plate of roast beef is going to be the one that leaves you pulling off the last few sheets of generic TP that feel like sandpaper because thats all the economy has to offer...
...when your toilet breaks are backed up by names like Charmin, Angel Soft, and Quilted Northern - consumer confidence soars. You aren't afraid to have an extra cup of coffee to wash down that bowl of oatmeal with extra fruit. You aren't afraid to have that second helping of corned beef and cabbage. You know that your shit tickets will hold their value because they are backed by something real. Something you can depend on.

Or, you could just pretend that Walmart will provide. You could just trust in "Big Grocery" to care for you from cradle to grave. Just tell yourself that Walmart will just print more Great Value brand TP so that everyone has a roll. Just let "Big Grocery" manage your paper - but don't be surprised when they limit purchases to "1-Per-Customer" because the illusion of "printing more" is just that - an illusion. When we rely on Walmart to "print more" we end up living "roll-to-roll" with no confidence that our next trip to the john will be a pleasant one. We start eating brown rice, white toast, and canned tuna because our confidence is low. Nobody wants to grab that big plate of extra hot buffalo wings because they are afraid of what the morning will bring...


I'm not posting this to cause panic - I am posting this only to bear witness to the coming of that 4th Horseman of the apocalypse. When "I need to see a manager Karen" comes forth, riding upon her Pale Shopping cart it will be too late. I've SEEN her upon her Pale steed - and hell is following with her.

That semi-trailer was a sign. The opening of a seal - recount what has been declared about the Pale Rider - Authority was given to her over all the toilet paper. The Charmin, the Quilted Northern, the Angel Soft, even the store brand Great Value, were all snapped up into the giant Pale Cart and Karen went forth over the earth.

CIVIL UNREST ? RIOTS, LOOTING, CITIES BURNING, MARTIAL LAW, NO LAW, EVERYMAN FOR HIMSELF ? I do not see this happening because of the perceived shortage of TP. The real shortage of ventilators is a problem for those that need one but are not in a position to demand or take one. The Prescription drugs Hydroxychloroquine, Azithromycin, Zinc sulfate may become the most desired asset, commodity, to keep you alive ! Where are these drugs stored? who has or can get access to them.? Being Positive; Wait & See....

Let us print our money on rolls and it can be exchanged for the softer charmin
but in a emergency the Govt can authorize the use of the money rolls as toilet paper. It will be Rough and tough and wont take shit off anyone but it will still be good for something.
