Upcoming midterms
The Leftist liberal democrats represented overwhelmingly in mainstream media has as long as I can remember shown both the illegitimate direct democracy vote and the legitimate electoral college vote in an attempt to delegitimize the electoral college and eventually gain enough votes to eliminate the system through the same system to the more simpler direct democracy they seem to wish we were....Thank god the forefathers understood this!
After listening and watching the crazy left the last 2 years I have been thinking that with Justice Ginsberg looking like the Crypt keeper and how the left is treating Kavenaugh this whole thing is backfiring on the left....I like the idea of a Justice going to the Supreme Court after this experience with the left....Trump may have a shot at a 3rd Justice with Ginsburg and his alternate after Kavenaugh is even more conservative.
Quick review
Why is it important to vote in midterms?......the electoral college? Nope....yet they are related and equally important the legislative will make or repeal laws that make or break economies in states
The Executive- Non Partisan
The Electoral college a misunderstood system of voting in a federal republic that seems highly complex.......with the same system mirrored in each state in its electoral college system. How does it work? each state is given electoral vote by population density each district has a popular vote to elect its elector usually done by popular vote the elector becomes part of the number game in a state for example California has 55 reps but each elector represents the district that elected them under whatever party....however the normal policy is the party with the most seats will cast the vote hence when the Dems win the majority in California the entire state goes to that party. Though the district is represented the system at state level does in effect become popular vote but not direct democracy.
After the election of the elector, each state prepares seven Certificates of Ascertainment, each listing the candidates for president and vice president, their pledged electors, and the total votes each candidacy received....sort of quality control. The electors never meet as one body and usually and gather at the state capitol to cast their vote ....they do not actually voted in November the actual vote is not until December but pledge to vote.
The amount of votes are based off of population density so this can fluctuated if for example people exodus from one state to another in mass.
As of 1964 the electoral college is frozen at 538 broken down as
the District of Columbia though not being a state though it has a population is given 3 equal to the smallest representation of the states
3 × 8 = 24 Alaska, Delaware, District of Columbia*, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, Wyoming
4 × 5 = 20 Hawaii, Idaho, Maine**, New Hampshire, Rhode Island
5 × 3 = 15 Nebraska**, New Mexico, West Virginia
6 × 6 = 36 Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Mississippi, Nevada, Utah
7 × 3 = 21 Connecticut, Oklahoma, Oregon
8 × 2 = 16 Kentucky, Louisiana
9 × 3 = 27 Alabama, Colorado, South Carolina
10 × 4 = 40 Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, Wisconsin
11 × 4 = 44 Arizona, Indiana, Massachusetts, Tennessee
12 × 1 = 12 Washington
13 × 1 = 13 Virginia
14 × 1 = 14 New Jersey
15 × 1 = 15 North Carolina
16 × 2 = 32 Georgia, Michigan
18 × 1 = 18 Ohio
20 × 2 = 40 Illinois, Pennsylvania
29 × 2 = 58 Florida, New York
38 × 1 = 38 Texas
55 × 1 = 55 California
= 538 Total electors the POTUS candidate wins with 270 votes
Finally some states have laws that protect this system from a state voting against its states choice but not all some states have a vote of no confidence rule that would render such a vote as null and void.... only 29 states have laws in place against faithless voters.
The Judicial- Non Partisan
Selected by the POTUS but confirmed or denied by the legislative body the sole Purpose is to represent the law and ensure that the legislative branch does not stray from Constitution
The Legislative-Partisan
It is by nature and design meant to be Partisan and has the responsibility to legislate the government, create laws. declare war etc.....this is why the midterms are critical
The upper house (100 senators + the VPOTUS) Senate is broken into 3 classes given the 6 yr terms but each class I(33), II(33), III(34) is up for election every 2 yrs in rotation this year class 1 is up for election and is 33 seats
The house of representatives elections every 2 years
This branch of government is where the power of we the people resides when it comes to law and legislature that represents our interests.....
Don't forget to vote

SCOTUS
[Trump may have a shot at a 3rd Justice with Ginsburg and his alternate after Kavenaugh is even more conservative.]
Another option to solidify the court if the GOP can hold the Senate would be for Thomas to retire and allow Trump to appoint a young replacement. The left will lose what little of their minds remain.

WD: The mechanics of what you discuss - opening paras, winner-take-all minus 2 states, etc. - need to be painted on the clue-bat used on the heads of the screeching Left when they claim that it should be abolished for literal direct mob-rule. Then they should go back to school & drink a 36 year-old beer at a frat party. Put in their file under: "Things you would've learned in school had you been paying attention."
My focus on mid-terms - party immaterial - is local. This is ultimately where non-generational issues affect one's life. Even at that, it is difficult to explain (often a fool's errand) to someone on the left, complaining about some restrictive aspect of their life, that it's often part of the string attached to some free-stuff program they were all-in for.
Absent the "balkanization" that some suggest (due to sheer geographic size of the governed real-estate) I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on whether the Permanent Apportionment Act of 1929 (capping the number of representatives) has or hasn't impacted this "disconnect" many Americans feel. A representative beholden to a max of 30,000 people might act differently than one beholden to an amorphous blob of 300,000 or 3,000,000. It seems to me that was one of the things that began the "speaking for many, answerable to none" problem that simply makes a situation where people get elected & their first order of business is then to begin the campaign to win the next election, rather than the work sent to do. Sometimes the dog needs a flea dip.

The only part of the Constitution the left seems to despise more than the 2nd Amendment is the Electoral College. They desperately want both to go away.

Mid-Term Elections ?
The U S A is in a Civil War, although the shooting has not started yet; The divide between the Ultra liberal left progressive Socialist, supported by georg soros, michael bloomberg and other billionaires vs. The mild Conservative Republicans; that have Rinos among them, Jeff Flake,Lisa Michkowski, Susan Collins will NOT SUPPORT AND DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION.

I've been arguing for decades about this. Currently the congress critters represent about 600,000 people. Cochise County here in AZ is staunchly conservative but, in order to get our congressional district up to the 600,000, they drew the district into parts of Tucson, arguably the largest liberal city in AZ. Now, they can redraw CDs but they can't redraw state lines so even though WY has fewer than 600,000 citizens they can't borrow any from CO to get more representatives so they are stuck with one.
If they'd get back to 20 or 30 thousand then Sierra vista alone would have as many as 2 congressman. That would certainly make them actually answerable to their constituents. An added bonus would be that none of them would become media stars because they would not hold any real power.

LOL. Given their view of Coloradans Pat & having a good friend up there I'm pretty sure they'd prefer not to import any for the purpose.
But yes, the circumstance you described is in play up here as well. The Dems in the capital are the first to complain about gerrymandering while not telling anyone old enough to remember that - under many years of a previous Dem Governor - they redrew district lines, on a pretty conservative western side of the state, to manage to "touch" all the mid-size cities where the High Church of Akademia has "branch" offices, to wit: the University of Wisconsin campuses. And you can imagine how that demographic generally goes at the polls. The clear result to anyone with better than 20/200 vision is that the current congressman over in my neck of the woods is a "go along/get along" tick that can't seem to be dislodged. It also requires any challenger to run a helluva lot larger campaign than should be necessary.

Party like it’s 1999...
“It’s the economy stupid!” No, really it is...not since Neal Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon and stuck an AMERICAN Flag in the surface has the unemployment rate been so good.
And...
If you want your doctor back and you want to keep your doctor, no not Connie Chung’s doctor or Dr. Nassar but the one who saw your family on Friday after hours and for a reasonable price; vote Republican!
Also, if you hated doing your taxes the last 36 years, since Christine Blasey Ford faked her first orgasm, wait, you’re gonna love the 1040EZ form even if you used to painstakingly itemize your cat food to get a little bit of your money back.
Lastly, well maybe not but, not a single new war has been started under the Trump administration and several potential ones have been postponed indefinitely!
