Peace Corps in Central America

Hello All. Hope everyone is recovering well from New Years celebrations.

A friend of mine is heading down to Honduras for a little while. I was putting some stuff together for him when I ran across this, the Peace Corps are leaving Honduras due to security concerns:

http://honduraspeacecorps.blogspot.c...-honduras.html
http://www.peacecorps.gov/index.cfm?...w&news_id=1932

It looks like they (the PC) are looking at possibly leaving El Salvador and Guatamala too.

As for the Peace Corps. I think when JFK imagined the Peace Corps he took the SF model of language, culture, and living with the population and threw in some left-leaning politics. I have never worked with active PC volunteers because they avoid the military for the most part. I have worked with some previous PC volunteers with mixed results. I know first hand that the situation in Mexico is more crazy than the media lets on. My question for 7th GRP, 20th GRP, everyone else is: Is the situation really this bad in Central America? Honduras specifically? Are Americans on the street in more danger than say Columbia? Or is this a Peace Corps specific problem?

You misspelled Columbia. It's Colombia.

Maybe they realized that their votes might not count as absentee voters?

Back 2+ years ago in Bolivia some of those PC Idiots after they arrived in country and were getting their Security Briefing they decided that being told to notify the RSO if you see anything suspicious/Dangerous or just out of the ordinary. Well that translated in their tree hugger minds as the Embassy was asking them to spy on their Bolivian buddies. The idiots went to the Bolivian government and Press and caused a big uproar. Being what DOS is they PNG'd the RSO and sent him home.

I have not time for them in any country I have been in. Paraguay was another story and it was not good. They have passed their time and a waste of money......

If they weren't in the Peace Corps, they would probably be in Occupy Wall Street....
