Great Britain leaves European Union

All major UK media calling the election a win for Brexit. Many 2nd & 3rd order effects to follow.

1. Scotland & Northern Ireland voted to remain. Particularly for Scotland, this could lead to a resurgence of the independence movement.

2. The pound sterling is currently plummeting in value to 1985 levels vs. the dollar. Banks could face short term liquidity issues as they try to cover positions. Will central banks intervene?

3. Current government (Cameron was a huge Remain proponent) could easily fall and new elections called.

4. It is a two year process to negotiate an EU exit deal. Current EU regulations covering the UK remain in effect. Expect the negotiations to be contentious.

5. Can the EU stand without the UK? How much more of the burden will fall to Germany?

6. Global economic impact? Will certainly be negative, at least short-term.

7. Technically, the vote is NOT binding on Parliament. Will they respect the will of the people?

LOL, I've been watching this minute by minute. Seems our British Brothers and Sisters have had enough of the socialist/communist rule of Europe.

Well done my British Brothers and Sisters, well done. Soon we will join you in removing our socialist/communist yolks.

I've no doubt Mr. Trump will soon be our President!

The leadership focused on the economic issue when the driving factor was unchecked immigration and the inability to control their own borders.

I suspect a 'deal' can be worked out with the EU so that the UK can have some autonomy and still participate at basically the same economic level.

This process will take, at a minimum, 2 years so its not exactly Armageddon as is being written up everywhere.

Interesting....I can't quite understand the idea of a European confederation anyway....economically, yes, but the loosey goosey border crap and open border stuff is beyond me.

My wife hopes the whole EU goes down so she can get more passport stamps next trip. She was a bit disappointed when visiting four EU countries only yielded one stamp last time. Interesting global perspective, hers.

My only regret was they didn't have the referendum on 4 July so in the future we couldn't celebrate our Independence together!

On the "F**k Brexit" rallies

Quote:
Campaigners state that the entire referendum was run poorly, with people not getting enough information on what to expect if the UK exits the bloc. They also say it was the older generation who voted for leaving the Union, while young people were "ill-informed and misled.”

Grapes of all kinda flavors.

Brexit's False Democracy

Brexit's False Democracy
What the Vote Really Revealed
By Kathleen R. McNamara

Referenda are terrible mechanisms of democracy. As a case in point, the recent British referendum over the United Kingdom’s membership in the EU was a reckless gamble that took a very real issue—the need for more open and legitimate contestation in the EU—and turned it into a political grotesquerie of shamelessly opportunistic political elites. The raucous debate over the United Kingdom’s continued membership in the EU was riven with lies and misrepresentations, some of which are now being explicitly rolled back by Brexit advocates; even the British press rues its bombastic support for the Leave side. Unfortunately, many British voters appear not to have known exactly what the EU is, validating other recent research demonstrating a lack of factual knowledge about the union.

Observers of the referendum should therefore be wary about drawing conclusions about broader globalization efforts, the Western order, the inevitability of the rise of populist anti-immigration parties, or the viability of the EU project overall. The answer to the breathless question posed in the New York Times on Sunday—“Is the post-1945 order imposed on the world by the United States and its allies unraveling, too?”—is simple. No, it is not. And yet the emotions and cultural chasms brought to bear in the Brexit vote cannot and should not be ignored.

Brexit’s real lesson is that there is a consequential divide between cosmopolitans who view the future with hope and those who have been left behind and have seen their economic situations and ways of life deteriorate. The same story may well play out in the United States and elsewhere, with important electoral effects. But the Brexit story also speaks to the uniqueness of the EU as a new kind of polity with a profound impact on the lives of all within it. History has shown that the development of new political formulations rarely goes smoothly. The divisions between those who can imagine a better life in the new system and those who cannot will likely continue to drive politics in the EU and elsewhere for years to come.

In other words, the globalist elite lost.

The results will swing back to the majority for EU membership in less than ten years, due to demographics with population growth in younger socialist and minority voters and the die off of older, more conservative voters.

Britain post Brexit. Have they ushered in their very own Merkel?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpd-aUgx5FI

This was from May last year. She sure sounds a lot like Merkel with her use of semantics and terms like:

"Laws against Extremism" "Laws against people gathering" Extremists? Anybody who does not agree with "their" plans? i.e. Send troublemakers to the Gulag?

"British Values?" "We are all one?" and "We Haven't as a society 'been positive enough about the values that unite us.." Thought laws to enforce positivism?

"Ensuring that we have and maintain what 'keeps us together' and our 'pluralistic values'.
She must mean all the Islamists that have not rejected assimilation and have integrated seamlessly into ethnic Brit society.

"Religious freedom"? For who? Because there seem to be a lot of laws that restrict Christians from practicing their religion publicly if there is the slightest remote chance that it may offend some Islamist somewhere while simultaneously Islamists are walking the streets of British towns ad cities enforcing Sharia.
