New IED threat
FYI: While I have not seen or been on the recieving end of the IED. Supposedly the Allie Babas are deploying a shape-charge IED. Can defeat a armored SUV according to the grapevine. Likely learned from Hezbollah.
On the other hand another gringo friend of mine's convoy was engaged on Rt Huskie. Allie Baba's linier kill zone was 1300 meters long. Used 4 PKMs , approxmantly 20 AKs, iniated with a IED. After the firefight score was 9 KIAs for the bad guys , only 1 lightly WIA good guy. Also none of the Coalition vehicles had been hit by small arms fire.
Thats the latest from around Baghdad

9 KIA bad guys and 1 lightly WIA good guy? Sounds like they forgot to put the "front towards enemy" marking on their IED.
Sounds like you guys are kicking butt over there, keep up the good work!

Just another quick observation, majority of the Alla Baba's fieldcraft, skillsets, etc are TERRIBLE. I personally believe many are just amatuers with the surviving leadership (Bath/AQ/Sunni G's ) more interested in using thier cannonfodder to make the hits. Publicity purposes mainly.
But the Alla Baba's are winning in the propaganda war. I have come to believe are Public Affairs guys are not getting the message out. Granted for the most part our press is very anti-American. So it is a uphill battle.
The bad guys are very good at IEDs, VBIEDs in general. I believe that they are also being trained by former Hezbolah, PLO, Iranian intell types. Anyway there is more to come.

Oh I almost forgot. The real guys fighting this war...Grunts, Marines, MPs on the convoys are doing one hell of a job. I'm continuely impressed with the American GI. They take the fight to the enemy.
Also respect the Iraqi NG & Police they have alot of flaws, hell I don't even trust them. But they are out there busting their ass, if we support them-they can pull it off. Just have to be patient and stay the course.

504,
If I took the location specific info out of your posts I could easily apply your comments to another AOR in the GWOT.
A few reminders all:
1) What's in the press isn't the whole story.
2) We should respect our opponents but also know that their field craft sucks. Keep on keeping on, don't get cocky.
3) The allies with us in this fight are as dedicated as we are and very good.
4) Our 18, 19, 20 YO "kids" are awesome and so is their leadership.
We are winning this war, don't let Katie Couric's, (et. al.) dumb ass tell you otherwise.
Take care,
CG

Sounds like the "flying plate charge" use by Hezbollah, Hamas and the Egyptian GI. Hit me a PM - I'll send photos that could help.
