The True Minimum Wage is Zero
Socialism gone full retard. Now what's the left-wing going to do with the millions replaced by machines?
Restaurant CEO Predicts Robots Will Replace Overpriced Labor
by John Hayward2 Nov 2015
The melancholy truth that America’s leftists, and the young people they exploit for political support, stubbornly refuse to learn is that the true minimum wage is zero. When the cost of labor is increased beyond its true value by government fiat, employers learn to make do with fewer workers.
The primary factor containing the damage from such market responses to increased labor cost is customer satisfaction. Beyond a certain point, it becomes impossible to cut jobs or productivity suffers too much. In a service-oriented business, such as food service, the customers have unhappy experiences at understaffed establishments and take their business elsewhere.
However, the CEO of one large restaurant chain warns that customers are now comfortable enough with automated systems to allow another huge round of job cuts in the near future. To put it simply, the government is pricing labor out of the market, and machines are standing ready to fill the gap.

Yup. I really need to be teaching my young son - robotic repair.
Much like an elevator repairman, someone will be needed to fix the machine.

Back in the day, at 16 I was pumping gas. Where did that job go
Looks like a fairly simple step to get rid of the order taker and just order your own Happy Meal off a touch screen.

Europe is already going that way. It's hard to see someone or stand in a longer line to pay cash and order. Just order your meal on a screen, swipe or wave your RFID CC or smart phone over the payment device and wait for your order.

I'm in the process of getting a degree in Mechatronics at my local community college. According to one of my instructors, the state of Texas decided to adopt the Sierra College Mechatronics model, and is in the process of implementing it in every one of their community colleges. I have not verified this claim with a source, but as the reliance on automated systems increases so will the demand for technicians who can repair them.

You're welcome. You said it best- "someone will be needed to fix the machine".

My local community college recently implemented a similar program and I am seriously considering it (getting tired of driving this desk all day.....)

On our most recent road trip, I ordered and paid for our Chick-fil-a meal on my Android before we ever pulled into the parking lot. Very easy and no language barrier.

It's the future. Plus, like you said...no language barrier (read English not required for employment.)

He's correct. But learn it they will, and the next step (toward the full-blown socialist model, destined for disaster economically over some # of generations) is to mandate the employment of the very class the first step has harmed. Tax penalties for NOT employing sufficient personnel. (Double-win for us Comrade Kulak as you now must offer our Enlightened Medical Care program.)
A government that is, unto itself, a cost-center has no clue how to act any other way - it's own overhead is never counted by itself in a manner that leads to efficiency. It has no mechanism, or point of reference, to actually calculate the true worth of anything in a market place other than for a nationalized product.
Sorry, we're just out of shoes today...
